As a senior (75) who had never learned to play board games before, I'm really grateful to Marcie for getting me off to a good start in learning to play chess. She made it fun and gave me confidence to continue learning. I appreciate her mellow and unintimidating patient approach!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I first learned to play chess at the age of 10 from my older brother. Then continued as an adult with my roommate. Since then I have played and studied on-line.
I have also taught and played chess with family and friends.
I am able to teach with patience in a fun way for the student to learn and enjoy the game.
Chess is often thought of as complicated and involved. This can lead to players feeling that they don't have the ability to learn the game. Yet, the reality is that chess can be taught to anybody.
When it comes to swimming, I'm a natural! I have always loved the water and enjoy swimming and teaching others to swim. I have taught adults and children to swim. With patience and encouragement, I work with the individual to become confident while respecting water safety protocol. I have been swimming for over 40 years including High School swim team. I am CPR and First Aid Certified.
