I spent four years working during college as a Surgical Assistant for an Oral Surgeon in Rome. My primary background is heavily concentrated on biomedical research.

If you are looking for a tutor, you want someone who can allow you to understand the subject, not just learn it. I have practical experience applying the knowledge I tutor and can easily adapt to tutor in the unique way each person learns. Learning a subject if often not adequate- science requires an understanding so that it can be applied to different problems.

A BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry and a MSc in Molecular Medicine and my career experience makes me completely qualified to tutor all life sciences and physics on high school or college levels.

Biostatistics,

Biostatistics

I have had formal classes in biostatistics in college and in graduate school, as well as general math classes in statistics. In my research in graduate school I used biostatistics on a semi-daily basis. Experimental outcomes are often measured by calculating a p value based on the data. I also have a reasonable amount of experience using the same statistical analysis techniques in industry while conducting research for medical device companies. I have a formal education in this subject area and I possess applicable experience applying and using its techniques.

Anatomy,

Anatomy

I have extensive knowledge of anatomy from both my Bachelor degree and Masters degree. I work in biomedical research where knowledge of human anatomy is crucial for the work I do. I was also previously a surgical nurse, specifically dealing with oral surgery and maxillofacial trauma.
Biochemistry,

Biochemistry

I have a BS in Biochemistry/Biophysics and a Masters degree in Molecular Medicine/Translational Science from Wake Forest. I use these area daily in biomedical research.

Genetics,

Genetics

Genetics is essential for translational science. I have taken graduate-level Genetics courses. In practical terms, I use various forms of genetic analysis ranging for karyotyping, RFLP Analysis, and Sanger Sequencing. I am proficient at designing viral vectors to insert genes into cells via plasmids, as well as using siRNA to silence expression of genes. I frequently use Quantitive Genetic techniques such as qRT-PCR to analyze gene expression.
Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

As an undergraduate, I was required to take two semesters of Organic Chemistry for my BS degree in Chemistry. I later completed an independent study as an undergrad that focused on organic synthesis. My relevant experience with Organic Chemistry is how it is applied in other areas like Biochemistry and Biophysics. To understand the molecules involved in photosynthesis, glycolysis, oxidative metabolism, etc it is important to fully understand the stereochemistry of carbon and how carbon molecules behave in chemical reactions. I completed two semesters of Biochemistry as a undergrad. In graduate school, I completed several advanced courses in Biochemistry and Biophysics. In my lab research, I use principles from Organic Chemistry daily. Because I work with cells and tissues, almost all of the reagents I use are organic. I have 4 years of experience in biomedical research from graduate school and working in industry for medical device companies. Using concepts form Organic Chemistry daily make it easy for me to teach this subject to students with different backgrounds.

Has taken a load of stress off my daughter

She is now able to keep her head above water in a class that she was not prepared for. He has been very helpful and very understanding to our situation. We will continue to use his services and refer him to others.

Super Smart Tutor!

Steven is working with my son to help him gain understanding and confidence in both Chemistry and Geometry. This was our first session with Steven so we'll see how well my son is grasping the concepts as his first tests and quizzes approach.

Very invested in my son's success!

Steven was a fantastic tutor. His dedication to his students is impressive. Steven's enthusiasm and genuine interest in my sons success was refreshing. Not only did Steven care about Gabriel's level of understanding, he was able to determine the techniques needed for Gabriel to achieve that understanding in a short amount of time! Very pleased we chose Steven as our tutor!!!
