Kennesaw State University (Early Childhood)
My love and passion for teaching comes from a strong community that put children first. I have seen how much it benefits children when the village rises up and fights for their social, emotional, and academic needs.
From a young age I loved learning and exploring. As I got older my love turned towards helping others grasp a concept and gain confidence. To put my passion into use I taught pre-k at the Goddard School for 4 years while attending Kennesaw State University. I was able to put my education into practice while teaching those students to better prepare for the rigor of Common Core. I have now taught Kindergarten for 3 years and tutored different age groups. This is by far the most rewarding job!
I specialize in tutoring Elementary reading and math. Whether we are practicing phonics skills, working on comprehension skills, or computing math problems, one of my goals is to have fun while learning. Children are amazed when they learned a concept WHILE having fun. I provide homework related to the sessions and track your child's progress.
There is always room for growth and for that reason I welcome feedback.
I understand things come up in life so I have a 5 hour cancellation policy. If you must cancel we can choose a time to reschedule.
To ensure your child's focus and success I choose quiet locations, such as the library, to tutor. However, I am happy to travel to another location if it is more convenient for the student.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child succeed in their studies.
I have taught reading to ages K through 3rd grade. I have 5 years of experience with teaching letters, sounds, and blending all the way up to reading chapter books to better comprehend and compare texts. Reading is a personal passion of mine and I love sharing it with others.
Common Core was rolled out when I was in college so it is the main curriculum I have been trained for. I have taught the Common Core standards year round for 4 years.
Being a Kindergarten teacher I have to live and breath phonics! My students have phonics lessons daily and this is the key to their reading success. I have a closet full of games and resources geared towards phonics that I put into use during reading groups daily.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching from the Common Core standards for three years at a public elementary school. I was trained on Common Core for two years before that in college. That totals to five years that I have been working with Common Core!
I teach handwriting daily in my Kindergarten class. I have been trained through the Lucy Caulkins handwriting program in the past year and use it daily in my class. My experience is in grades K, 1 and 4th.
I teach phonics daily in my kindergarten class. We have phonics lessons as well as implementing it into our reading groups. My students come to me often times not even knowing their letters. Most students leave being able to read to levels B+ in Fountas and Pinnell leveling.
