I have seven years experience teaching 8th grade math in Indiana: algebra, pre-algebra, and advanced algebra classes. My undergraduate degree was in elementary education with a middle school math endorsement. I also have a Master's degree in school administration.
During the 2010-2011 school year I tutored a 7th grade female in all subjects, three male 8th graders in algebra, one female honors algebra student, a struggling 6th grade female, CRCT remediation for both male and female 8th graders, and a college level female in algebra I. I also did an 8th grade math maternity leave position for 10 weeks at a middle school.
I currently teach 4th grade full time so I am looking to get some clients set up for this coming summer. If you are interested in arranging a summer tutor for your child, whether it's for remediation, extra practice, or to challenge your child, I'm your mathmagician!
I am patient, thorough, experienced, and passionate about the necessity to reach children as soon as they start to struggle. We can not afford to have any more kids give up on math, or determine they're "not good at it." Everyone can be a successful math student, and I want to help! Courtney B. worked on a weekly basis with my daughter on Math, History, and Science last year. She was in 7th grade and is enrolled in an on-line homeschool program. Courtney was a huge help to her esp. since she has to do alot of the work on her own and really needs instruction esp. in Math. I would highly recommend her as a tutor in any of these subjects.
Courtney is a awesome tutor. Math is my daughter's weakest subject in school. She had never failed any part of the CRCT but this year she failed the math portion by a few points. Being she was in 8th grade, she had to retake it and pass to go to 9th grade. I was very worried and not trusting just the school reinforcement class, I turn to Wyzant to find a tutor. That's where we found Courtney. She is a wonderful tutor. She worked with my daughter everyday for 2 1/2 weeks straight to help her understand the 8th grade math. Needless to say, my daughter passed the 2nd take with flying colors. She went from just below failing to just about at the exceed point on the CRCT score. It was all thanks to Courtney and the way she taught my daughter the techinque to learn the math. She was very patient with her but she also means business. I was so impressed with her, I kept her as my daughters tutor on a weekly basis now. She is enter 9th grade and the math doesn't get any easier and I'm confident Courtney will be a big part of her passing 9th grade math course. My daughter loves her! If you are looking for a great tutor you need to contact Courtney she will help your child greatly.
Courtney has been helping my 8th grader with math for about two months. I tell her what he is working on in class and she comes prepared with worksheets to help him. I wish I had found her earlier in the year.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
