I am a college student studying to become an English teacher abroad. I have had some experience in tutoring in math and English but I want to focus on language more so now. I have worked with kids and teenagers over the past 3 years and want to gain more experience with other age groups. I want to be able to help my students and try to have fun doing it.
I wouldn't consider myself to be a hard tutor because I don't want to prevent a student from wanting to speak or perform their target language. I prefer to use descriptivist English which is focused on how English is used when someone speaks it without correcting every grammatical mistake. For example, if something is said in English and a native speaker can understand it even when not completely grammatical then it works. If you would rather focus on being completely grammatical that is fine too but even native English speakers aren't totally grammatical all the time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
