My BA is in Interdisciplinary Studies and my MA is in Curriculum and Instruction as a Reading Specialist from the University of Texas. I have spent many years tutoring students in reading and math. I have worked as a Reading Specialist. In Texas I worked as a Title 1 Reading Specialist teaching Dyslexic students using Orton-Gillingham. I moved to Florida and taught in a private boarding school teaching reading to students with learning problems. I have been trained in Linda-Mood Bell programs (LIPS and Verbalizing and Visualizing) and also Spell Read another program for students with reading difficulties. I am certified in Texas and Florida in Elementary Education and K-12 Reading. I am also certified in ESE.

I am retired now but have found that I miss the student/teacher interaction and would absolutely love to teach again on a part-time basis. There is nothing more satisfying than to be able to teach one-on-one and watch when your student begins to see his or her potential and realize, "I can do this!"

I would be thrilled to be able to help you or your child.

Students who have trouble with reading, writing, and spelling learn in different ways. Students who have these problems need to learn the sound/symbol relationship in a very structured way. They need repetition but also need to learn using all their senses.

Tutoring

In August we contacted Miss Mary in order to get our son ready for college in January as well as some additional testing . My son is a quiet introverted Young man Often misunderstood it’s hard to find a good match for him. Miss Mary was just the medicine the doctor ordered. She has been tutoring him since September she is so accommodating. There are several times that she would have to drive several miles to tutor him and accommodated him and his schedule. My son stated out of all the tutoring in the past Ms Mary really connected with him , teaching him in a way he could understand. Thankful and grateful for the wonderful tutoring and effort Ms Mary put into her session .

Mary is great with my son! She is kind and patient.

Mary is teaching me some techniques to help my son myself (in between her sessions) I really appreciate that. I like how Mary takes her time going through a lesson and realizes when he needs a break.
