Bio

I have been a nurse for 35 years and worked full time as a nurse for 30 of those years. The majority of my career has been spent in hospitals with a focus on oncology. I have also worked in long term care, home health and a crisis stabilization unit. Teaching patients has been a daily part of my nursing practice and I have also taught candidates for Certified Nursing Assistants and prepared them for their state certification exam.

I love to learn and after I completed my nursing degree, I returned to school and took a variety of courses although with a focus on history. I believe that learning is a life long process and that nothing we learn is ever wasted. One of the greatest gifts we can receive is a love of learning, imparted to us by a parent or teacher who loves learning and has the ability to make it interesting, if not captivating.

I have worked 30 years as a nurse and my experience is varied, although my two loves are oncology and addiction.

I am an avid reader, who can happily spend hours with a book in my hand. I have a large vocabulary, both in nursing and in general due mostly to my reading. I have spent my entire adult life writing, mostly business related, charting or university papers.

I have taken college level courses, as well as done substantial reading about American history. The majority of my college level courses, some of them advanced level was in European history and the majority of my reading has been done on European history.

I love to learn and as a nurse discovered of love of teaching. I have been told many times that I have the ability to take whatever I am teaching, or talking about for that matter when the subject is history, and make it interesting, salient and worth remembering. I have a strong grasp of details and can interpret difficult material into more easily grasped concepts.
