Dennette provided just what I needed, a basic sewing lesson for a teenager. She seemed to understand kids. She went slow enough but without talking down to my granddaughter. She covered all I had hoped for. She was very likable and a really nice person. My granddaughter said she enjoyed the lessons. After Christmas, if my granddaughter wants to continue with her sewing, I will definitely call Dennette again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD, both diagnosed and undiagnosed, medicated and not medicated. It is about organization, short spans of learning with frequent changes of activity or subjects in order to keep them engaged. Finding their interests and applying it to whatever they must learn is a must. If they don't find it necessary, they lose interest or find no purpose in what they are doing or learning.
