My name is Paulette. I have a Master's degree in Education, and one in Guidance & Counseling. I have taught 1st through 12th grades. I was employed 5 years as a Department of Defense elementary and middle school teacher in Japan and England. I have also taught study skills to incoming freshmen at The University of Alabama/Birmingham. Early in my teaching career, I was selected by the local school board to represent my state to tour West Africa, along with other teachers from the eastern seaboard ,and develop teaching curriculums, based on Ghanan History. Our work was published and compiled in research books to be available as supplementary material.
The advantage of being married to military personnel afforded me the opportunity to relocate every three years, thus being able to experience lots of varied learning instruction which has enabled me to become the teacher I am today.
I am currently employed with the Clayton County Public schools as a part-time teacher. For several years, I operated a learning center for students between the ages of 4-5, and offered a curriculum that prepared students to become more than prepared for their elementary school experience. I have lots of experience and obtained a variety of skills that have prepared me to know proper tools for tutoring students.
My grade preference is 1st through 3rd. This is the age where students minds are open and positive learning opportunities take place. I understand the need for testing to find out students levels, in order to use appropriate materials that will enhance the growth and learning of individual students. Even though I prefer 1st-3rd grade, I may occasionally work with 4th graders.
I prefer to meet in a library setting. Another option could be arranged with the family if necessary that the place is suitable for all involved. I do expect that students report on time to be able to benefit from the time allowed. I require a 24 hour cancellation notice. I will be available between the hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the summer months. I appreciate you contacting me to work with your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had 17-plus years of experience stateside and with The Department of Defense Dependent Schools. I have a Masters Degree in Education, and one in Guidance & Counseling. After three consecutive years of teaching, I was selected, one of six teachers in my region to tour West Africa, conducted research in six countries, thus, developed teaching curriculums that were used as supplementary materials in the local school system. Additionally, I operated "The Academic Learning Center" to adequately prepare students for the elementary school experience. The program was designed to prepare individual lesson plans to accommodate the academic levels of each student. Ten percent of the students qualified for the only Magnet School in that district. I not only have had the academic training, but also a deep desire to help students excel.
