Bio

I love learning and teaching! I have always been devoted to my students and find that the best way to move students forward is to develop a strong relationship built on trust and respect. This involves getting to know a student's strengths and areas in need of strengthening by building strong lessons and assessments, tailored to the individual's learning style. Although learning requires perseverance and determination, once the student finds success, the limits of learning are boundless....

This involves getting to know a student's strengths and areas in need of strengthening by building strong lessons and assessments, tailored to the individual's learning style. Although learning requires perseverance and determination, once the student finds success, the limits of learning are boundless.

Over thirty-five years of teaching, I have enjoyed many successes with students in a variety of content areas. As evidenced by my academic background including a BS in Elementary Education, a Reading Specialist Certification, and a Master's Degree in Science Teaching, I have pursued a variety of certificates to better serve students for twelve years in public schools and for twenty-four years in independent schools, all along the way tutoring individual students. For example, I taught a first grader to read, a ninth grader how to comprehend physics, guided an ESL student from fifth through twelfth grade until he entered Dartmouth College, guided a student on the autistic spectrum through elementary math, and tutored dozens of students in grammar, composition, math, and literature.

I would be honored to serve as a tutor for you or your son or daughter.

I hold a BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I have extensive teaching background in both public and independent school settings. I also hold a Reading Certification from Penn State and a Master's of Science Teaching for K-12. Handwriting

I have taught elementary school for over thirty years in public and independent school settings. I have taught third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders how to compose handwritten paragraphs and essays, including how to form letters. I have worked with students with dysgraphia, as well as students who were never shown how to form letters. I would love to work with a student on his/her letter formation. As a left-handed individual, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to learn to form letters.

Homeschool

In my thirty plus years of teaching, I have created literature and social studies units for homeschooled students, have created and taught science units, and have tutored students in composition and math. My greatest success was when one of my homeschooled students entered and won an essay contest centered on Abraham Lincoln and his legacy. I guided the student through the research and writing process and attended the awards ceremony with the student and his family. Over the years, I have learned how important it is to work closely with families of students who are homeschooled so that content is covered in a way that respects family values.

nice and excellent tutor

She taught me structures in writing. She helped me to organize an essay, how to write an introductory paragraph, thesis statement, and concluding paragraph. After I met Victoria several times, I now know about how to write an awesome essay.

Patient

We have worked on our ABCs and now are reading short words. Victoria is excellent. She tailors the lesson plan to where our child is at and is very understanding if we need to stop before expected, again very patient and understanding and great to work with.
