About Hannah

I am currently a student at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I am a rising junior planning to graduate in December of 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in the dual endorsement program for Special Education and Elementary Education.

I have observed and assisted in classrooms for over 150 hours at three different elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, a center for autism, a school for children with problem behaviors, and one community college. I also have much experience tutoring my classmates and other college students in their mathematics courses at Liberty University.

I am very patient with children and I enjoy seeing them progress and succeed both academically and behaviorally. I strive to provide children with a safe environment in which to learn and become passionate about gaining new understandings and knowledge.

I have observed over 100 hours in various academic settings and have been trained by highly-qualified professional in my field of study. The main aspect of education that I am interested in, especially in an urban setting, is special education. I have a heart for children with disabilities and my goal is to change the negative view that some people have of them.

When an individual is labeled as “disabled” they begin to hear that title repeated and it becomes a form of identity to them. I believe that every student can learn given the appropriate and necessary education and accommodations. I want to be a guide for those children and ensure that they are treated as individuals with as much potential as their peers. It may be more difficult for some students to reach an age-appropriate academic level, yet it is possible with hard work and dedication to teach any child and encourage them to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently in my senior year at Liberty University, studying elementary education and special education. I have over 20 credit hours specifically in Education courses. I have a GPA of 3.69. I also have over 150 hours of experience assisting and observing in various classroom settings, including elementary level classrooms.

Piano

My mother has taught piano for 23 years. She taught me to play since I was 5 years old. I have participated in numerous piano recitals encompassing all ages. I have had the opportunity to informally teach two of my peers how to play.

HANNAH IS GREAT!!

Hannah is an extremely patient tutor and a great listener. She is very knowledgeable with MS Word and although our laptops had different versions of word, she went the extra mile to answer my questions by showing me methods in both versions. She is very easy to talk to. Looking forward to more lessons!
