About Jay

I have worked in tutoring for over four years. My first tutoring position was much like this one: one-on-one. I continued tutoring while working in a private tutoring center that focused on SAT English learning. I taught lessons in literature, grammar, and vocabulary, during which I emphasized the importance of language arts. Currently, I work at Aloha Tutoring where I work as an English teacher. There, I work both with a class and students individually so that they can succeed in school.

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in fifth grade; I channel my passion for English and learning in general in my tutoring and teaching, for I wish to teach students how fun learning can be.

An undergraduate minor in Spanish, I know the nuances of the Spanish language and know the complex ways to conjugate the verbs. I make learning Spanish fun; I know a plethora of Spanish songs, so I use those songs to teach the particular grammatical lesson being taught.

I majored in English at Georgia State University and am currently a graduate student there. I am the 2014 winner of the Eleanor M. Pratt scholarship for excellence in literature, which proves my extensive knowledge in the various types of literature and the important literary devices and styles. I am also a proficient writer. My love for literature and grammar corresponds to my writing in that I try to bring new ideas to subject matters by experimenting with my writing.

I love teaching. It's the key to have a successful future, and for you, student, to contact me would be wonderful, for I care deeply about education and the success of all my students. I will try my hardest to give you a quality tutoring and entertaining learning environment.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
