I have been in education for many years, previously having been a Center Director, taught preschool, taught special needs, and worked as a substitute teacher for all grades including Special Education. For the last 7 years I have owned an after-school and educational summer camp program and am currently working on my Master's in Early Childhood Education. I am presently employed as a Fulton County Middle School Teacher.
I believe every child can learn, and it is up to the teacher to figure out how to teach to the needs of individual children. Children are not all the same, and lessons need to be differentiated to meet the needs a particular child requires. I like to make learning fun, interactive and technologically enhanced. If students find the material interesting, they will work to the best of their ability. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience working with children with ADD and ADHD. Differentiation is key when working with any special needs child, and I believe that lessons can be adjusted and re-designed in order to accommodate the child's needs and still obtain the same level of knowledge and understanding as "cookie cutter" lessons. When a child is engaged and interested, it is much easier to teach complex concepts. I have taught preschool and worked as a substitute teacher for all grades.
I have extensive knowledge in Old Testament and New Testament studies. I am currently attending Concordia University Colloquy Program for Teaching Certification in the Lutheran Church. I am able to teach the bible nondenominationally.
I am certified in Early Childhood Education as well as Middle Grades. I hold a GA State Teaching Certificate certifying me to teach Preschool through 8th grade.
I have worked with all areas of Windows and am proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I have created many multimedia power point presentations and have taken computer classes for educational planning and 21st Century Technology.
I have experience in public speaking because I not only had to take a class in college, I was also the owner of a summer camp and had to speak on a regular basis to groups of people. Furthermore, being a teacher I am routinely speaking to large groups of students and faculty and giving presentations.
I was born and raised Roman Catholic and am currently Lutheran. I am currently completing certification in the Lutheran Church as a certified Synodical Teacher. I have much knowledge regarding many religions.
