I am a Veteran teacher with 13 years of experience as a classroom instructor. I have managed High School English classes and Elementary Art classes. My administrators describe me as hardworking, independent and diligent and have asked me, “How do you stay so positive?”
My strengths are managing potentially problematic behaviors or complaints by motivating students to participate, to take ownership for their own cognitive processes and to do this by exploring through group discussion in class. I also encourage them to form study bonds and routines outside of class. I have a strict accountability and management plan that uses consistent positive reinforcement and peer-to-peer checking to engage students in actively crafting their role as future leader. I cause budding scholars to do their best in ways that propel them to next levels of scholarship. Colleagues are inspired by the transformational effect I have on even the most at-risk enrolled students. I retain their full dedication throughout the entire course.
Within my department, I am diplomatic in assigning and sharing tasks; this because of my administrative course work at the doctoral level. My flexibility, creativity and ambition enable me to teach in any and all scenarios. With my superiors I take new challenges and seamlessly address them constantly elevating the standards within our institution.
As a New Yorker with non-native parents who are Caribbean I have come to feel like a non-native in all the places that I have taught.
Teaching in Maryland Schools has taught me that- while I may not be able to change a city or county -the reward of this profession comes from personal interactions on a daily basis with scholars and seeing them grow and develop new ideals for themselves through my influence. I teach through a critical pedagogic method that constantly pushes students to interrogate their own ontology and beliefs. I show them how to situate themselves in the global economy for future success. I teach them to exercise their agency through their academics. I teach them to define their academic self-identity over the course of our work. I show students how their educational career is in fact the most formative part of their future career from day one.
As a long time exemplary educator in the field I would be honored to share my talents through this awesome opening. Please consider me as a strong, charismatic and dedicated professionally licensed educator who is ready to serve here as an extraordinary professor. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
