State University of New York at Oswego (Public Relations)
St. John's University (Master's)
I have currently relocated to the Atlanta area from New York City. I taught in NYC for 3 years and I hold a teaching certification in Secondary Education (7th - 12th grade). I'm also an accredited and certified Special Education teacher. Even though I'm certified in Special Education, I am experienced in teaching both special education and general education students.
I have experience teaching students with various learning disabilities as well as emotional disorders, autism, ADHD, and ADD. I truly enjoy working with students and supporting them reach their full potential. I believe in reaching students where they are academically and providing all necessary supports for growth.
I have taught mainly in the inclusion classroom setting with general educators. The subjects that I'm most comfortable with are high school level English Language Arts, World History, and American History. I would love to tutor any student struggling in any of these subjects.
I encourage students with positive reinforcements and push students to reach goals while monitoring progress. I will listen to the wants and needs of the student and their family to ensure success.
I have co-taught in 9th, 10th grade World History as well as prepare students to sit for and pass the state exam. I have also co-taught in 11th grade AP American History which prepared students to sit for and pass the state wide exam.
I have taught in small groups and large inclusion classroom groups. I have modified curriculum and lesson plans to make content accessible to students with special needs. I have received in depth training to support students academically and socially with Asperger's and Autism - high functioning.
If your looking to excel in the classroom or pass exams I'm more than willing to support students in making that happen. Failure is not an option with me and I promise to provide a safe learning place while bringing up grades and/or building confidence to take and pass exams. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
