My students have been accepted into the nation's top universities such as:
University of Pennsylvania, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology as well as many other great schools.

I also work with students of all types, from kindergarteners to adults, and I have worked with students from the top schools in Atlanta, such as:
The Westminster School, Pace Academy, Walton High School, Northview High School, Roswell High School, Woodward Academy, Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, Marist School, and more.

As an avid learner, I always encourage learning in others. I have been tutoring since 2011. In that time, I have helped over 150 students of all ages (from ages 3 to 50) prepare for over 50 subjects, standardized tests (ACT, SAT, ISEE, SSAT, GRE), and foreign languages (Latin, Arabic, Spanish). I began tutoring professionally after entering college, spending one year as a language tutor for Emory University, then pursuing private tutoring. As a result of my tutoring, students often see a significant increase in their scores.

I possess a wealth of knowledge in many areas, but one of the things that I find fun about learning is seeing how subjects connect to the real world. This is one of my greatest strengths as a tutor. I always look for ways to tie my students' interests and real-world examples into my lessons. My students find learning much more interesting when I start pointing out the links between what they're learning in class and their passions. You will usually hear laughter during my sessions because I make sure that learning is not only incredibly informative but fun as well. By nature, I am a very personable and patient and I can work with any kind of student. As such, students really enjoy tutoring sessions with me.

In my spare time, I volunteer to tutor at various schools around the Metro Atlanta area in addition to getting involved with various non-profits. I believe (and research has shown) that working with the community plays a huge role in the impact of students' education. It is my goal to make as much of a difference as I can.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I have been tutoring for 4+ years. Many of my students are young - Elementary and Middle School age. The majority of my work with these students focuses on test preparation skills - particularly, the ISEE and SSAT, which tend to be well above their grade level. Because of this, I am great at breaking down complex ideas into simple and relatable bits. My students see a great improvement in their understanding of the fundamental Mathematics skills, such as multiplication and division, in addition to learning how to break down and understand word problems.

From time to time, I get students that are looking specifically to improve their study skills, but I find that this is a general issue for all who seek tutoring. As a part of all of my sessions, I focus on building a foundation for good study habits and other basic skills necessary for learning. In this area, I work with students on developing good note-taking, organization, listening, and observation/inference skills.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have been helping people increase their vocabulary all my life. I have always been drawn to words and languages, and it is a personal hobby to learn more about words and their meaning. I have been formally tutoring students since 2011, and I have helped them increase their knowledge of the basic elements for words in English, of how Latin/Greek roots are incorporated into more complex vocabulary, understand the origins of certain types of words and use that information to identify the meaning of an unknown word, and more. With my help, your student can learn the tactics and rules behind increasing their vocabulary.

ACT English,

ACT English

I have been helping students improve their English and Writing scores for years now (My own scores for English/Writing were above the 90th percentile). I have found that students typically struggle with grammar and contextual questions (e.g. inference problems or defining vocabulary from context). I coach my students both on the knowledge they will need (focusing on the most important/frequent types of questions) and combine that with strategy skills to help them approach material they may have never seen before. My students approach the test more confidently and see a great increase in their performance.

I've worked with students on this test for over 3 years and all of my students have seen improvements in their scores. Many of my students see increases of 20% or more in the score with as little time as a month! The Reading and English sections of this test are my specialty - I personally scored a 31 on English and a 29 on Reading - and I can help greatly increase your child's understanding of the English language and reading comprehension.
English,

English

My mastery and understanding of the English language comes through years of studying other languages for the past 7 years. To date, I have studied over 7 different foreign languages, including Latin and Arabic, which I hold my degree in from Emory University. One benefit of learning foreign languages is that it teaches you to understand grammar, phrasings, and more in your native tongue when you put effort into truly understanding all aspects of the other language. Learning and speaking other languages has made my English much more precise and has greatly improved upon my own understanding of the language. Professionally, I have tutored students in all grade levels (including college students) in all aspects of English language studies, from grammar and vocabulary to literature and reading comprehension to writing and composition. I have done so for the past 2 years for students who need general help with the subject as well as those who are preparing for standardized tests such as the ACT.

I have a three-part approach to tutoring for this test; in sessions, I focus on test-taking strategies, reviewing and reaffirming fundamental concepts, and targeting specific areas in need of improvement. My students gain a better grasp of the tested concepts and see a significant increase in their scores.
ISEE,

ISEE

I have been tutoring students in all levels of the ISEE for the past two years with Varsity Tutors. Through tutoring with Varsity, my students have succeeded greatly on this exam and have gotten into their schools of choice because of it.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have been tutoring students for the SAT for years. I focus on three things: review of concepts, teaching new information, and strategy. The way I execute my plans depends on a student's goals and timeline. On average, my students see a 15-20%+ bump in their score on the test and learn very useful test taking strategies that can be applied to any sort of standardized test.
SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

Since 2011, I have been helping students grasp a better understanding of what they read and the key concepts and literary devices that commonly occur in the various types of passages. After working with me, students are much more confident in their abilities and are better at identifying important information in texts. I can teach your student how the SAT typically presents information in the passages and questions and how to identify the most important information quickly.
SAT Writing,

SAT Writing

I help students often with their writing in preparation for standardized tests, schoolwork, and otherwise. I have found that students typically need to improve in two areas: organization and detail. I keep my instructions simple while pushing my students to think about and explain things in more depth. My own scores for English/Writing were above the 90th percentile and I have helped many students greatly increase their scores over the past few years.
SSAT,

SSAT

I have been tutoring students for all levels of the SSAT since 2011. I place equal focus on test-taking strategies and foundational skills for the content of the test. I break down each topic into bits that are easier to understand, and focus on the areas that will help my students do their best on the exam. Because of this approach, many of my students see a significant increase in their scores and get into the school of their choice.

Great Chemistry tutor

Ralston is a genius! He makes learning fun--plus he knows everything! He normally works with me on Geometry--but I have a Chemistry test tomorrow and I told him I needed help with Chemistry upon arrival at my house--and he nonchalantly said “Ok” and we got everything done! ❤️

Knowledgeable, Helpful, Responsive, Patient Tutor

Ralston was the first tutor to reply to my questions about my son taking the SAT. He was knowledgeable of the SAT Reading requirements and provided strategies for studying before arriving to the first lesson. Ralston helped my son understand the tougher passages and the nuances of the questions asked. Ralston spent 3 hours with my son over two days. My son said Ralston's advice and strategies helped him with comprehension on the SAT Reading portion of the test...especially the science section. With Ralston's help, my son will probably get accepted at GA Tech or one of the other top 10 engineering schools in the country. Thanks, Ralston!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Ralston is currently helping me prep for the quant section of the GRE. I haven't reviewed math in a while and he's extremely patient with me, going over concepts slowly to make sure that I'm not missing any details. I look forward to subsequent sessions, and I have confidence that Ralston will help me reach my goals.

Thanks for the review!

Mr. Ralston was a knowledgeable, extremely professional and patient tutor.

His assessment of my child was spot on and his proposed plan of action was well thought out. He understood the deficiencies and was prepared to adapt according to my child's level, personality and temperament. He also was able to engage my child effortlessly. Mr. Ralston is punctual and extremely articulate. He exhibits the qualities that you would want in someone who is tutoring your child. His response to the original request was prompt and the dialogue was effortless. Mr. Ralston clearly understand what he is doing regarding the respective subject and has a good handle on itl.
