Hi, I am Dr. Elena. I tutor predominantly master and doctoral level students working on their capstone projects: a master thesis or a doctoral dissertation. My students study Nutrition, Sociology, Psychology, Biomedical Sciences, Health Education, Community Health, and Nursing.

My services include teaching to brainstorm and develop research problem and question, write, revise, and organize paper or dissertation, select the proper, or improve data analysis, and present results. I also guide students through the whole courses that are critical for graduation, including the most favorite by students: research methods, ethics in research, capstones, etc. I advise students on shaping and polishing their presentations, statements for graduate school, and directing them in career choices and future directions. Everybody, who worked with me from the start to the end, passed happily his/her course with the target, or higher grade, defended his/her capstone, dissertations, or graduated.
I usually combine my tutoring with academic coaching to focus on developing studying and test-taking skills. My goal that each student I become a confident and independent learner and outstanding professional, no matter what subject they are tackling. I like tutoring science because, in my opinion, it resembles research: tutoring involves solving a puzzle consisting of multiple challenges and bottlenecks that are unique for each student's learning process.
I was a valedictorian at high school and a National scholar at college. After college, I spent 15 years studying at college and two doctoral programs studying more than 100 subjects in Europe and North America. I have graduated at the top of 7% of my class at medical school. I have more than 20 years of teaching and mentoring in biomedical, nursing, Nutrition, and several interdisciplinary sciences. Currently, I work as a health scientist/clinical epidemiologist at one of the largest government agencies. I also serve as an adjunct professor of Nutrition at a private university. I have

I have more than 20 years of analytical experience using SAS base or SAS callable SUDAAN as a health scientist. After teaching SAS for all these years, I have developed my own teaching SAS method for beginner users at Wyzant. I also have experience working with various databases (NHANES, NIS, NHIS, BRFSS, PRAMS, etc.) and analytical techniques (survival analysis, mixed models, etc.). I offer SAS analysis of complex survey data and other specialized SAS training on-demand as a part of my capstone packages.
SPSS

SPSS

I have more than 20 years of analytical experience using SPSS, Excel, SAS base, SAS callable SUDAAN, and R as a health scientist. During all these years, I have been teaching students how to perform statistical analysis using SPSS, including but not limiting: descriptive stat, basic t-tests, Pearson correlation, One-way, and two-way ANOVA, repeated measure ANOVA, Chi-Square Tests, and multiple linear regression. An advanced statistical analysis, including factor analysis/principal components analysis, cluster analysis, decision trees, logistic regression, survival analysis, generalized linear models, and mixed models, is also available. I put a particular emphasis on the selection of the most important results and presenting them in the APA format.

Statistics

Although it does not require any advanced algebra knowledge, statistics may be challenging for many reasons. Most people don’t really learn statistics until they start analyzing data in their own research. I am a PhD level health scientist with more than two decade of quantitative research experience. During all these years I trained future scientists and public health professionals in performing basic as well as an advanced statistical analyses.

Love her

So helpful in my research class. I think you will not be disappointed by using her, she is exceptionally knowledgeable and easy to get in contact with. I will use her for future projects in this class and any other classes that I have need

Super knowledgeable

We had a class about survey instruments and research methods. I gained a lot during my session and felt comfortable moving forward with my research. I especially liked how Dr. Elena explained terms and helped me analyze the instrument.

Best Tutor Ever!

I have used Elena for just over 1 year now. I'm in graduate school doing 8 week long courses at a time so its fast paced and lots of work. Elena has made my graduate experience much easier than it would've been without her. She's very patient, great attention to detail, will help you find the best articles for your papers, and will take your paper seriously. She has helped me make A's on every project, paper, or assignment I asked for help on. She responds quickly and will make sure you understand the assignment. Thanks for all your help thus far!

Knowledgeable and kind tutor

Elena is an excellent tutor. She is also very kind and honest. I was very frustrated learning how to code is SAS, but she walked me through it step by step and we made so much progress over a few sessions. Thank you Elena!

Great Tutor!

Dr. Elena, a great tutor, delightfully human & a great leader! Redirecting & supporting understanding of work & writing, offering suggestions to reframe ~ simplify meaning, getting out of own way! I learned much! I loved working with her!

Carolyn, 4 lessons with Elena

Very knowledgeable and motivated

Elena was a fantastic tutor that helped me with coding and analysis using the NIS dataset. She spent her own time figuring out proper coding and always came to each lesson with an answer or resolution from our previous lesson. She really helped me understand SAS and the interpretations that came along with the results obtained. Elena additionally was very caring and enjoyable to work with!

epidemiology / methods analysis help

She was great because she did not just do it for me, she waled me through it so I understood why and how the SAS coding was working. So I can also apply it later.

She's a Nice Tutor However Communication was a Problem

Elena and I spent a great portion trying to understand one another. The communication was really frustrating. There were moments that I could not understand her. I thought I would still give it another try for a lesson, because I had invested a lot of time explaining my research paper, but she did not reply to my follow-up email. I had to reach out to her after we had discussed a meeting date and time. Overall I am really disappointed with Wyzant for not disclosing this important detail.

Connie, 1 lesson with Elena
Tutor responded:

I am sorry to hear that Connie is disappointed. I fit Connie's session on the same day as she requested her appointment to ease her anxiety about the project. After our first session, Connie asked to schedule a two-hour session and sent me more than 30 documents at 10:30 pm. The next day, I confirmed the schedule of our next session in 3 minutes. She may be unaware that the Wyzant application allows students to schedule the next session at their convenience. I also have a very liberal fee policy: no charge for the first 15 minutes and the third hour after 2-hour sessions. I only charge in 15-minute increments providing 30-or 45-minute sessions. These approaches ensure the availability of multiple choices, convenience, and personalization to suit my students' needs and demands.
