I began teaching ballet classes when I was sixteen, working carefully with each student. I taught art classes to K-8 grades during my last year in college. I was chair of Fine and Performing Arts in a mountain boarding school for three years, teaching drawing, painting and dance. I taught scenic and costume design for two years before being hired to teach drawing and painting at Savannah College of Art and Design for twenty years, where individual attention was always emphasized for student success. I have also taught online painting theory and processes; introduction to art; intermediate and advanced art history classes; and African American Art History. The best part of my teaching experiences has been working one-on-one with each student to be able to question, think through ideas to better understand complex methods and ideas. I enjoy watching a student gaining and developing better research skills through critical thinking leading to successful oral and written communication.

For many years of teaching high school, undergraduate and graduate courses in the Fine Arts, I have helped students by editing grammar in their Fine Arts essay assignments. For twenty years as a Painting professor I enjoyed proofreading undergraduate B.A. writings in the arts, and acting as editor on M.A. and M.F.A. thesis committees. My writing has been published in several poetry editions, in two books of my own poetry and paintings, and I continue journal writing every day.

Feel free to contact me to schedule your individual session(s) for tutoring beginning, intermediate or advanced drawing, or painting. I can also assist with scenic and costume design, and history in the performing arts. I work to patiently assist you with developing your writing skills including, grammar, sentence structure or organization and sequencing of ideas. I do enjoy providing one-on-one help with drawing and painting skill development of methods with materials, composition, color, subject matter and processes.
