About Amanda

I have experience teaching college biology lab and lecture classes and I'm just getting started with tutoring. I love helping students break an intimidating concept down into smaller pieces so that they can understand it a bit at a time. Some subjects I would feel confident helping students getting a better grasp on include accuracy & precision, mitosis & meiosis, gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, macromolecules & polymers, evolution and natural selection, wildlife management, atoms & bonding, water and its unique properties, ATP & thermodynamics, animal behavior, ornithology, the scientific method, scientific writing, and basic biochemistry/organic chemistry. However, there are many more biological concepts I know I can help students with!

When I first enrolled in college I was an American Sign Language Interpreting major, but I soon discovered that studying birds was my true passion. After changing my major and graduating with my Bachelor's degree, I enrolled at Georgia Southern University. I finished earning my Master's degree in May 2016. I taught for three semesters as a Lab TA at Georgia Southern and I currently teach in both lab and lecture settings at Armstrong State University as a part-time faculty member. I have experience with songbird banding, avian husbandry, wildlife rehabilitation, and shorebird monitoring. I also enjoy gardening in my spare time, and hope to have a few bonsai on my hands in a few years (my junipers and yaupon holly still have lots of growing to do!).

I encourage students to contact me if they have any questions at all about the subjects I can provide assistance with, my availability, my rates, the distance I can travel, etc.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
