Covenant College (Early Childhood Edu)
I am a recent graduate who studied Elementary Education. I have 1 and a half consecutive years of student teaching experience, in which I often tutored one of my students. I have experience teaching all core subjects, and I can provide lesson plans that are easy to follow. I love to tutor students because it gives the teacher an opportunity to get to know and understand an individual better. Tutoring also provides an opportunity for the student to gain confidence in a subject area that they may have not had before tutoring. Having had tutors that helped me through high school and college math and science, I understand what that relationship should look like and what goals should be made. Students should be pushed into their learning zone and be challenged through tutoring, but they should never be pushed too far.
Math is the subject that I taught the most in my time as a student teacher. It is the subject that I was the least comfortable with before my student teaching, but I believe that my mentor teachers set forth stellar examples of how to make math interactive and hands on. As someone who struggled with math all throughout school, I can empathize with students who struggle with math.
Growing up, my mother always corrected my grammatical errors. Due to this, I am hard wired for proper English. I also love providing students with a plethora of vocabulary words to use and understand in order to assist them in understanding the written world around them.
A year of my student teaching was in two Georgia public elementary schools; therefore, I had much practice with teaching the Common Core Standards as well as the Georgia State Standards. I understand how to take a standard and break it down into "I can" statements for my students; I center my lesson plans around successfully preparing my students to be able to do all of the "I can" statements.
I enjoy science because it is hands on. It also helps students understand the world around them. Science lesson plans are a treat to plan since you can almost always find a hands on experiment to accompany the lesson plan.
I look forward to meeting any perspective students and their families. I am thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in a child's educational experience. The hope is that through tutoring, a child will gain confidence in the subject matter as well as themselves as a student. I am a recent graduate who studied Elementary Education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been in a public school classroom for the past year, meaning I have been test prepping students and using the Common Core standards for all of my lesson plans. I am familiar with the Common Core Standards website and know how to break them down into goals for my students to achieve.
