I have been taking math and engineering classes for the past 8 years. I graduated from the University of Denver with a BS in Mechanical Engineering with Minors in Math and Physics. As someone who was never very good at paying attention in school, math was my favorite because I could always figure it out independently (I always thought of it as a puzzle). Because of this, I understand math in a way that is different than how students are taught, and I have a different angle when it comes to concepts that can be difficult to learn in a school setting. This being said, I still understand why math is taught in specific ways in school and I have no problem following the methods teachers recommend if necessary.
I have previously been a teaching assistant for high school students and I have volunteered with middle school students on and off for the past 6 years. I also have two younger siblings both of which I have guided through all their difficult math and physics classes. I also have experience working with younger children as I was a nanny for two elementary-age kids for two years, and I have babysat many other aged children on and off as well.
I have had a learning disability my entire schooling and I know how difficult school subjects can be for students who learn differently. I bring a different technique and perspective to learning and I have experience and understanding of learning disabilities and students with them, so if this is something you or your student are struggling with I would like to help!
