Helping students to succeed is my passion. I recently retired from a 16 year career teaching Math and Science, ending my career with three years as an Instructional Coach teaching teachers in Gwinnett County. I am currently fully Georgia certified in Math, Science, and Social Studies Grades 6-12 with Endorsements for Gifted Education and Instructional Coaching. Throughout my career I volunteered many hours coaching a Science Olympiad Team, running science fairs, and creating science lab experiences. I also tutored all of my students in all subjects.
There is no such thing as a student who cannot learn! I have many methods to approach each student's unique learning style, abilities, and talents to guide them in applying these to succeeding in any subject. As a recent retiree I am familiar with today's students and the use of technology to facilitate learning. My personal teaching philosophy is that it is critical to teach students how to learn, and how they learn, since this will be a life long need in the 21st century of rapid change. A background of 20 years in business before entering teaching gives me an ability to connect learning to the real world and motivate students.
I achieved 100% state test meets and succeeds in Math and Science, even with challenged students living in poverty. My gifted students living in poverty outscored students in wealthy schools. I have a Finance degree from Emory, Masters of Science in business from Georgia State, graduate course work in Math at UGA, and an Education Specialist degree from Piedmont College. My SAT scores were top 5% and my GMAT scores were top 2%.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught Prealgebra for 10 years to students who had gaps in their learning backgrounds or who were "math challenged." My students had a 100% pass rate on state tests. I use real world items to teach the concepts and take the abstract to the everyday world. I can quickly diagnose misconceptions that cause challenges for students in prealgebra.
