About Jennifer

I am an experienced tutor specializing in all aspects of English instruction: reading comprehension, SAT/ACT prep, grammar, and writing. I have worked for one of Johns Creek's best tutoring companies, conducting their SAT and ACT classes for the past 2 years. In addition, I have taught in the North Fulton school district for the past 10 years, teaching both honors and on-level English Literature and Composition classes. I am AP Language and AP Literature certified, as well as Pre-AP English certified. Finally, I am a second-career teacher: I was an instructor for a few Fortune 500 companies, creating and delivering instruction on multiple software packages.

How am I different from other tutors? I am able to assess students' needs quickly and accurately. If a student needs more work on reading comprehension, I have a plethora of experience and exercises to help them get up to speed. I am familiar with most of the current curriculum and am able to tackle the higher-thinking skills students need today. Most of my test prep students experience at least a 100-point jump in their reading and writing scores. I do not teach just strategies, I teach students skills that will help them through college and in their future. Tutoring students is one of the most rewarding opportunities in being a teacher, and I look forward to the opportunity to help your child achieve whatever Language Arts goals they hope to accomplish.

My students are able to feel successful and supported as they increase their confidence and skills in Language Arts. My specialization in English plus my experience equals a winning combination for your student.

My previous test prep center closed to transition to a charter school, so I am currently open with flexible hours on evenings and on weekends. Please contact me for more information. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have tutored for the past ten years and recently worked as the ACT teacher for a tutoring center.

ACT Reading

I have tutored for 10 years. I don't teach just strategies, but skills in critical reading that can help with all subjects. I also have a strong background in grammar with a specific focus on the types of questions on the SAT and ACT

English

I have taught English at a HS for 10 years, both honors and on-level classes. I specialize in helping students learn how to break a text down into meaningful parts to help determine the main idea and how those parts support the main idea.

Literature

As I mentioned before, I have a Strong background in teaching English within the expectations for North Fulton. I am familiar with the curriculum and helping your student improve his reading comprehension and AP testing strategies

SAT Writing

The school where I teach has a string grammar program to help specifically with the writing portion of the sat and the act. I have strong knowledge of the most common types of topics and many resources to help you succeed in this area.
