About Adam

After teaching English in NYC high schools for over 10 years, I have observed that the most academic progress can be made more privately as in a one on one tutoring session. I have used unorthodox texts to teach literature analysis ranging from films as text, to using graphic novels as literature. I have had past students pass the NYS Regents exam writing about comic book characters using analytical terms that most considered strictly for Shakespeare and the cannon of "Classic Literature." I use the graphic novels as a parallel to classic literature thematically and analytically. I do not teach English...I teach children. I incorporate philosophy, science, math, cultural studies, etc. into my lessons as most students do not learn in a linear fashion. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
