Bio

I am a High School Physics teacher, currently teaching AP Physics 1 & 2. In previous school years I have taught Mathematics (remedial to advanced, pre-algebra to calculus) and Computer classes specializing in Microsoft Office, Visual Basic, Java, and HTML.

My students perform at or above state and national averages on the AP Physics exam. I had the 3rd highest pass rate of any physics teacher in the state of Georgia for the 2015-16 AP Physics 1 exam.

My students perform at or above state and national averages on the AP Physics exam. I had the 3rd highest pass rate of any physics teacher in the state of Georgia for the 2015-16 AP Physics 1 exam.

In addition, I am a reader (i.e., grader) of the AP Physics Exam.

I teach as a passion. I'm glad I get paid (I have two children attending college), but the real motivation is moving just one student from confusion to clarity.

Here is what some of my former Physics/Math students have said,

"Mr S. is no doubt the smartest individual I have ever had teach a course that I have been in...yet he was the most patient and down to earth. He made it interesting and fun which in turn allowed me to learn more. I would take Mr. S. again in a heartbeat." [Tyler]

"It was a really interesting class and Mr. S. is a great teacher. He volunteered to help you whenever you need and whenever you have any question. I learned a lot from his class and I did really well in all my college Physics for Engineering classes. I love Mr. S. and I wish he would teach all the Physics classes in my future." [Logan]

"Learning Physics teaches you how to think. Mr. S. taught us how to use our minds to think critically in ways that I would have never before learned. I still use tips and tricks he taught us in my college classes, and honestly, sometimes it's the only way I can figure some of them out! All in all, it was my favorite class that I've ever taken. The lessons you learn in Mr S's class will more than likely stay with you forever and to some degree shape your life. It's because of him that I'm taking on a dual major in physics. Physics with Mr. S isn't just a class. If you listen to what he says and just try to appreciate and understand it, it can become a life experience." [Madison]

great first lesson

Very clear first session with plenty of real life examples to clarify the topics. Looking forward to the next session.

Highly Recommend, knowledgeable, great teacher, sense of humor

Who can actually make high school Physics fun? Okay, that's my bias, but it was so great to have my son, a Junior in high school, come to me after a tutor session with Randy and tell me that it was funny and helpful at the same time. Randy really helped my son out who was in a jam for a test the next day--Randy went out of his way (and late into the night) to fit my son in. Right on point with the lesson, and very helpful.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Randy has done two AP Physics 1 lessons with my son. We have tried many tutors and none of them were able to help my student until we found Randy. My student is finally getting Physics concepts in a way that he can apply them to problems.

Smart guy; great teacher!

My son was having trouble with certain circuit analysis problems, so I thought I'd try Wyzant to get tutoring help. Randy was able to meet with us on short notice and he had a deep understanding of the topic, and was able to assess where my son was at in this area and break through the points of confusion. He is an experienced teacher so he can skillfully find the gaps! Thanks, Randy!

Great Tutor

He is very good at making sure you understand what he’s teaching before moving on and he puts it in an easy to understand way. He’s very reliable and thorough. He met me several days in a row and helped me gain more knowledge than my class.

Randy is a knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Randy taught my son AP Physics 1 (Algebra-Based). Randy is a well organized patient tutor who explains the course material in a way that students understand. I think he is a great Physics teacher and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Randy is excellent! He helped my daughter with AP Physics. She basically has been keeping her head above water with a "C" grade all year and failing all of the tests. With a lot of hard work from her and the clear understanding of AP Physics material my daughter got a 75% which was the highest grade she had received all year. I would highly recommend Randy!

excellent knowledgeable physics tutor

Randy is a great teacher, making difficult physics concepts much easier to understand. He gives thorough explanations on AP free response questions. My daughter finds his session enjoyable and useful and will be working with Randy to prepare for her AP Physics exam.

Newton's Laws

Randy helped me clear up topics I wasn't too sure of and always made sure I was still following along and understanding the concepts. Great at explaining things and making them easy to understand.
