I have a M-Div from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, a master's in education, emphasis in History. I have taught in 3 states, from middle school to seniors in HS, and instructed all types of students, from those with learning disabilities to those identified as gifted. In addition I have coached numerous sports at all levels, including varsity. My professional experiences have helped me to make strong connections with students and my developer gifts have aided me in seeing the avenues to best help students learn. I teach from a strength based approach while building up areas of deficiencies and helping students to develop compensatory strategies for their academic weaknesses.
I've been married 25 years and blessed to have 3 children, all of whom are very successful student leaders in their schools. I've lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Georgia. I love the outdoors and exploring the country.
I hold a M-Div with emphasis in Pastoral care/expository preaching/ counseling. I have led numerous Bible Studies, as well as pastured and planted a church. I have tutored Reading and English Language to adults trying to obtain their GED as well as taught English to students with learning disabilities. I've also co-taught HS classes in English Language Arts for almost 15 years.
I hold teaching certifications in US and World History, Economics, and Political Science. I have also taught Geography. My passions are in US History though I've used experiential teaching in all subjects. I am passionate about History, and knowing that most students aren't nearly as interested in the subject matter as myself, I strive to make lessons highly engaging and very interesting. I also like to use humor to lighten up the lessons and make learning more enjoyable.
I have received the Teacher of the Year award from my HS and have always had very high student approval ratings as well as principal approval ratings. I love helping students find ways to learn and get to where they need to be. If you are motivated to learn and need assistance getting through a subject or subjects, I would enjoy partnering with you and making that happen. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
