About Grace

I currently hold a Specialist Degree in Elementary Education (ED.S) from Nova South Eastern University Florida, a certification in Early Childhood Education from the state of Georgia and a Master's Degree in Special Education (MA.MR) from The State University of West Georgia. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Education (B.Sc/Ed) from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

I served as a paraprofessional for two years at Mount Olive Elementary School in East Point, Georgia before gaining employment as a full-time Special Education teacher at Babb Middle School in 1996. In 2003 I was transferred to a high school in Jonesboro where I started teaching a different population of students with special needs. I am currently an employee of the Clayton County Board of Education and have taught in the public school system for 20 years. After graduation from the university in 1979, I gained employment with the Board of Education to teach Biology to grades 9 through 12 at a girls' high school Nawfia where I gained 8 years of teaching experience in general education.

I have a passion for coaching and assisting students in reaching their potentials. My interests also include helping students learn and develop new skills as well as develop inherent skills and abilities. I desire to improve the lives of young people, help them achieve their goals and take them to the highest level of academic achievement that they can get. Because of many years of interaction and working with students with special needs both in the collaborative as well as in self contained classrooms, I feel comfortable working with this population of students in a group as well as in a one-on-one setting. I have the patience, knowledge and strategies for teaching students with intellectual challenges and cognitive delays. These students require extra time, special attention, special knowledge and strategies in order to grasp and learn required academic skills or basic life skills. I am currently working with students with autism, down's syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and a combination of both physical and intellectual disabilities. However I enjoy working with children in the elementary grade levels of the general education curriculum as well.

I design and implement individual education plans (IEP) for students with special needs. I plan and instruct summer camp educational program for both regular and general education students at my church. I organize and implement Community Based Instructions (CBI) and Community Based vocational Instructions (CBVI). I teach Math, Science, Social Studies and English Language Art to high school students in special education at my school. I believe in a student centered teaching style in which students are in the center of the learning process. A lesson plan that requires students to stay engaged in a hands-on and/or one-on-one relationship with the instructor should be favored and implemented. Strategies and skills activities that can improve students' learning and academic growth should be sought and used. Students have different learning styles and learning ability levels, and this must be put into consideration during lesson planning. My goal is to help every student that comes my way achieve their highest potential.
