About Jessie

Bio

I am Jessie T., a native Georgian who has taught school for over twenty-four years. I started out working as a paraprofessional, but I was limited as to the amount of instruction I could give the students in the classroom; therefore, I quit my job and enrolled in college full time. At the age of 27, I received my Associate's Degree in Education, then at the age of 30 I received my Bachelor's Degree in Education with a major in History and a minor in Social Science. I am also certified in Language Arts and Social Studies.

I have several years of tutoring experience. I have tutored students who were struggling in Math and Reading at the school. I have tutored after school and on Saturdays.

I like to use a variety of modalities/styles of teaching: teacher-pupil, pupil-teacher, project based learning presentations, drawings, hands-on, visual and graphic teaching and dramatic role playing activities.

I have taught 6th and 7th grade Title 1 Reading. This subject was tailored to remediate students who had difficulty in the regular reading class. These classes were small in size. The reading class included whole group instruction, small groups, cooperative groups and a technology component to address the specific deficiency of each student.

When I taught Title 1 Reading I also taught vocabulary skills where I used the method of pre-teaching the unfamiliar words, defining and discussing the words, and I provided multiple opportunities to use the new words in context. I also used graphic organizers.
