Anderson University (Elementary Education)
I have had a wide range of teaching experiences. I have taught grades 1,2, 3, 4,5, 7, and 8. I have also been an inclusion teacher with special education students and an early intervention program (EIP) teacher for students that need extra help. I have been gifted certified for over ten years, and have taught in both the elementary and middle school settings. I have had over 20 years of teaching experience in both rural and urban settings.
My students like me because I make learning fun and interesting. In fact, many of my past students still keep up with me on social media, because they remember many of the fun things we had done as a class. My students also like the way I joke with them. I have three children of my own- one in elementary, one in middle, and one in high school. They enable me to keep up with what is going on at each level of schooling.
I am an excellent writing and reading teacher, because I have taught so many grade levels. I know where each child needs to be at each given grade level. I am currently teaching second grade, but just two years ago I was in the middle school teaching seventh graders. Although I was a Social Studies teacher, the students had to produce a final essay each quarter called a DBQ. It was my job to instruct the proper way to organize a paper and use textual evidence to support their opinion. If the students are successful with this process, they will be able to do well on the Georgia writing assessment. I have also tutored students in reading during the summer months. I currently teach Saxon Phonics at the second grade level.
I have been working with the Common Core standards for three years. With Common Core, it requires that students read at a higher level and respond to questions using details and complete thoughts. We are required to teach specific strategies in math depending on the grade level of the child.
When in the elementary school, I have taught all subject areas. I like to use models and drawings in math whenever possible to help the children understand concrete examples for their learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a certified teacher in GA. I use the common core in my second grade classroom. The common core has been used in the state for the last three years. I have also watched pod casts on the common core and its goals. I am evaluated each year to verify that it is being taught in my classroom.
