I am a compassionate teacher and strive to discover your specific needs of learning English. I have ESL training and experience with two non-profit organizations and served as a tutor for five years. My previous students were hard workers who had incredible gains. Their personal goals were met with patience and perseverance.
I love working with ESL students because they have a passion for learning and realize that it takes time and commitment to achieve the desired results. I have worked with beginners with little to no English skills as well as with advanced students who kept me very busy finding challenging lessons. I believe that success in learning comes through incorporating a variety of relevant methods and materials. The content of the lessons is relevant in teaching life skills. I use technology when appropriate and always try to bring creativity and fun to each session.
I take time to get to know my students and what drives them so that I can create an individual curriculum that will help them to succeed in learning English. I have an education background and have taught in public school for eight years. My most recent experience teaching ESL is through Volunteers of the Low Country in Bluffton, SC

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
