Bio

I currently teach kindergarten in South Fulton, GA. I love children and I am blessed to be living my dream as a teacher! Teaching and working with children is my passion. Knowing that I can positively influence what children will one day become encourages me to do whatever it takes to meet their needs. I love to inspire the children I work with to be their best. It is my goal and desire to give students confidence in their knowledge and cultivate a desire as lifelong learners.

As a graduate of the University of Florida, I am equipped with the knowledge and skills to support students. I specialize in reading, supporting students with literacy development and filling in whatever gaps they may have. With every tutoring session, we set a goal and work together to achieve that goal. It's important that I not only equip students with the skills they need support in, but also that they gain the necessary skills (i.e.- goal setting, perseverance, etc) to tackle challenges in the future.

I have high expectations for both myself and students. For that reason, I may request feedback, communicate consistently with the parent and student's teacher, and strive to ensure success.

I create a plan that the student, parent and teacher agrees on. I give students access to online tools to support their tutoring sessions and provides interactive and engaging lessons for students to review.

I am able to both teach students how to read and how to read to learn. Phonics and decoding ability is only half the battle. Students need to be able to fluently read and comprehend text. As a reading tutor, I use the first session to determine fluency reading rate, comprehension, and reading level and set goals with the student and parent. As sessions progress, students not only gain speed with their reading fluency, but they also increase reading levels and understanding of what is read.

As an early childhood educator, I specialize in phonics instruction. When students are struggling with reading, I typically provide an informal decoding inventory to determine what gaps students may have with various phonics skills. Using that information, we set goals and work toward mastery of phonics skills. Students not only learn phonics skills, but also how to use those skills to decode text in leveled readers to increase understanding.

Encoding words is a related skill to decoding words. It is important that students are able to both blend and segment sounds so that they can be successful writers. As a spelling tutor, I use phonics and phonemic awareness skills to ensure that students are developing as successful writers.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success!
