About Ronke

I am a well-rounded tutor who has the ability to explain concepts in the simplest ways, with good life-applied examples. I have vast knowledge of many subjects spanning numerous areas of study, from elementary to college level and have tutored students and career people of all ages, including my children, two of whom are currently studying at Harvard. I have a major passion for learning and love to drink in new areas of knowledge frequently. My writing and research skills are very advanced and I have the ability to turn a dull-looking academic paper into an fun, yet interesting piece, with excellent focus on the subject matter. When I was younger, I entered and won national writing competitions and excelled in all my math subjects with flying colors. I have a medical sciences background, and later moved into business, finance and computing, not by choice, but by chance. I have quite a few years' experience working in the finance and information technology sector, and have also focused on designing and developing management and test-prep training courses both in and out of the workplace. I have been tutoring since 1993 and have also taken a number of graduate modules in education. I use the concept that males and females learn differently, and this is reflected in my pattern of teaching. I also try to encourage women to feel better about science subjects, with special concentration on computing and information technology. I currently work as a programmer / analyst and am very good at what I do. I am a well-rounded tutor who has the ability to explain concepts in the simplest ways, with good life-applied examples. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I use a simplified method to tutor students in Algebra. It is important at this point, not to get confused with the basics of this entry into the world of Algebra. I teach confidence along with it.

C

I have been a programmer by profession for the past 16 years. I am very proficient in C, being one of the first languages I learned. Although it is older than C++ and C#, it is still widely used in industry.

C#

C# is one of the languages I picked up in my latter half of my career. It is very similar to C and C++

C++

When I was in college, one of my first programming languages was C++. A few years later I worked in the university's computer lab where my job was to assist students having difficulty with their homework in the in Intro to C++ class.

Computer Programming

In addition to being an instructional trainer in Computing and business, I have been a programmer by profession for the past 16 years. I am very proficient in most languages: C, C#, C++, Java, Visual Basic, PHP, Python etc. I have also worked with Database tools: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL. I am currently completing my masters in Business Systems Integration with focus on SAP tools, SOA and semantic technologies.

English

I am from England. I also have excellent writing and reading skills, having written several essays and research papers. I can easily impart my knowledge of grammar, speech, writing, vocabulary and reading skills to students of all ages.

Finance

I am currently completing a masters program in Finance and Business Integration Systems. I have underlying industrial experience in finance as well as computing, having worked several years in the finance section of many companies. I am a proficient tutor/trainer.

GED

I am from the UK. When I was forced to take the GED a few years ago in order to prove the fact that I had completed high school many years ago in UK before attaining a UK degree, I scored top marks in all subject areas: 99, 99, 99, 89, 83. This was performed without any previous study. I also have the ability to teach what I know very well, as displayed by my students' results. All have passed, with marks usually in the 70s and above.

Microsoft Access

I have firm, well-rounded knowledge of Microsoft Access, its SQL and VBA having been working with it since 1996. I have used it in my job for several years as well as taught it to my computing and database students.

SQL

SQL is just one of many programming tools I have used for several years now, both in industry and as a training consultant. I am a very proficient database / applications developer who has used SQL across several database systems: Oracle, SQL Server, Access, Sybase, mySQL. I can also help you by exposing you to real-life assignments, and ways to solve them easily. I have helped many people get jobs with my job-preparedness methods of teaching.

Visual Basic

I have worked with Visual Basic since version 4 (1996) to present and have successfully taught and mentored several college students many fundamental design and programming concepts and designed exam preparation materials for the Visual Basic Certification exams.

Writing

As a Harvard undergrad, writing was one of my most prominent subjects. I have had comments from professors commending my writing skills and the refreshing manner I tend to use to grab my readers' attention. Born and bred in the UK, I have been winning national writing competitions from a very young age. My writing skills span academic, technical, business, copy and script-writing. I have also tutored young students (my Harvard sons too) from middle school to college in essay writing, succeeding in improving their skills, especially in preparation for writing exams. I teach people to enjoy writing, and arm them with confidence for later years.
