The University of North Georgia (History)
I'm a bookworm who loves to learn and teach. I'm currently working to finish my degree in history and pursuing a teaching career. Eventually, I hope to start my own Classical Christian school.
I'm looking to begin a part-time tutoring career to both help fund my education as well as expand my teaching experience and build my resume. Much of what I've learned in regards to reading, writing, public speaking, studying history and other subjects has been self-taught. I've had great teachers in both grade school and college, but most of what has helped me have been skills I've developed outside of the classroom. This gives me a unique understanding of the process of learning itself and how to best accommodate a student's abilities.
I've helped countless friends and family over the years with writing papers, editing articles, manuscripts, resumes, college admissions essays and preparation for tests and job interviews. I've published various articles in different online political sites as an activist and commentator and have also spoken at conferences and public rallies. I'm an avid student of American history, Western culture and political science.
Education is not merely about passing tests or improving grades but as Augustine put it, "to order our loves." That is, education fundamentally, is learning what it means to be human and how to live. Unless we encourage students to consider the various subjects they're studying from this perspective, it will result in confusion, boredom and lack of perseverance. Whether it's reading, writing, public speaking, analyzing facts or making decisions, each student should be encouraged to view learning with zeal. It should capture their imaginations and inspire them. No assignment is an end in itself, but a means to further discovering what is good, true and beautiful in all of life. I want to help you discover that for yourself or your young student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
