I am a retired certified teacher who has worked with a wide variety of elementary school students since 1993. I am certified in grades k-8, and I have a master's degree in middle grades education. I also have a math and science add on certification.
I like to tailor my teaching methods to what each child needs, as each child learns differently. More importantly, I believe every child can learn! We just have to figure out what works best.
I have seven children of my own plus 9 grandchildren. I was a foster parent for 10 years.

Kuga has more confidence now than before and I feel good about it! This was really hard for me to give him. Since I'm not from here (America) and I'm not a native speaker, it was a problem when he had an issue with English grammar or writing.
Ms. Alice is always very patient and very positive towards to my son. This is not easy !!!
Kuga seems to really like Ms. Alice!
Thank you Ms. Alice, we hope we have a great time together for a long time to come !!!
Alice has been working with my two sons (ages 7 & 8) for some time now and thus far, the experience has been very positive. She has a very kind and sincere approach and genuinely cares about my sons. They look forward to her lessons and she has been very effective at teaching my sons, even in the midst of some turmoil in their lives. Both children have some minor learning disabilities and Alice is very adept at understanding their specific needs and the right methods to apply. Her educational background and experience is very strong, but her personality and approach/demeanor are the real reasons she is so effective, in my opinion.
If you have an opportunity to use her services, you will not be disappointed!!
Thanks so much, John. You and your boys make it easy to tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have raised many children, including foster children, and a large percentage of them have ADD/ADHD. I have sought resources and therapy for children in my own home.

Examples of programs that I use are Great Leaps and Ultimate Phonics. I keep data on my students to show progress.
I have discovered some students who use other strategies to read besides phonics and are successful readers.
