Valdosta State College & Georgia Southwestern State University (Early Childhood)
Just to tell you a little about myself, I am a Georgia Certified Early Childhood Teacher who loves teaching reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary! I love to see my students grasp concepts and increase their love of learning. I attended Valdosta State University in the mid 90's and graduated with a degree in Public Relations. I went back to school a couple of years later after I realized I really wanted to teach. I attended Georgia Southwestern State University and received my certification in Early Childhood.
I taught public school for a couple of years before coming home to have my first child. When he was of preschool age, I went back to teach at a private school where I taught pre-k but at the Kindergarten level. I taught kids how to read and write and I LOVED IT! I was able to take my son with me so that was a great opportunity as a mom to be able to be near him while teaching. When he reached 1st grade, my husband and I realized he had a few learning disabilities and needed more one on one attention than could be given at school. I decided to come home and homeschool him using the Georgia Cyber Academy. I have taught him using GCA for the last 6 years. I am happy to say that he is a straight A student, a Boy Scout, on the archery teach and the quiz bowl team in our area. I really feel like my decision was the best one for our family. He has excelled and is making great strides as a student and as a young man. I do believe being certified and knowing how to help him succeed has made a huge difference for him.
I wanted you to know that I have experience in Public School, Private School, Online Schooling/Homeschooling and feel this gives me an advantage to tutor any student who needs some extra TLC outside of their usual learning environment. I understand that each student learns differently and will try to help each student individually. I would love to meet with you online or in person to discuss your child's needs and try to help him or her discover his or her own potential while fostering a love of learning.
I have helped students build a foundation for the English language using vocabulary, writing and reading. By the end of the school year my students were able to build words to read and write and had expanded their ability to take reading, grammar, and writing to a new level while building confidence over time. I have taught students how to write their alphabet, words, sentences, paragraphs, 5 point essays, and research papers through different curriculums and teaching techniques. I have taught students how to read by teaching word structure, sentence structure, grammar, inflection, prediction, fluency, and reading comprehension. I have taught English grammar so they understand punctuation, sentence structure, and how it all fits together so others can understand the message they are trying to convey. I have even helped students write across the curriculum by using other subject areas to create interest for the learner and to help them realize how to expand their writing in an interesting way.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
