About Jasmin

As a person with a degree in Applied Linguistics I have always had a love of language. After receiving my Teaching English as a Foreign language, I was ecstatic to be able to share my love of language with others. I worked as an English as a Second Language (ESL) for one year at a school for refugee girls. After this work I traveled to Turkey to teach at one of the top English language schools in Istanbul. Here I learned not only how to challenge students of all ages, but to foster a love of language that mirrored my own.

While I currently am more focused on academic teaching, my background is non-academic settings such as music, voice, and theater at a children's program. Though seemingly disparate, this has allowed to think of creative activities that are not only enjoyable, but also have a high academic value.

As my teaching background has focused on teaching English to non-native speakers, it is very simple to adapt this style to native speakers. Whilst studying Linguistics, I took many classes that analyzed the English language from the individual sounds all the way to the organization of paragraphs.

I am excited to begin tutoring in the Columbus, GA area! Please feel free to contact me if I can provide any further info, or to schedule a lesson!

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

As a graduate of Applied Linguistics, I have looked at Phonics in the context of ESL, analyzing Phonetics, Phonology, and the International Phonetic Alphabet.
As a volunteer at in the ESL classroom Phonics was used heavily as a means to teach beginning language learners the fundamentals of reading.
In both of these contexts I am extremely comfortable in using Phonics to further student's knowledge in Reading, Speaking, and other relevant areas.
