About Monique

UPDATE FOR SUMMER: This summer I will work through the grade appropriate Summerbook with your child. It is much easier to motivate your child to complete the work if there is someone besides a parent checking up on him or her! How will this work? You will order a Summerbook from http://summerbookcompany.com/. Summerbooks provide a thorough review of math, language arts, reading comprehension, writing, and thinking skills. The upper elementary grades also include science, history, social studies and health giving your child a well-rounded review across the curriculum. Each Summer Book contains ten weeks of work, one page per day Monday through Friday. I will review with your child and help with any problem areas. For younger children, we will also review high frequency words and spelling rules, and for older children we will drill on the hugely important multiplication/division facts and learn tricks to make memorizing these easier. Our summer vacations are short in Henry County, so be prepared to begin the first week in June by contacting me today!

School Year Tutoring:
Does your elementary child need additional help in basic reading or math skills? I am a certified teacher who has taught many children to read, substituted in all elementary grade levels, and has home schooled my own children for upper elementary and middle school years. I have a wealth of knowledge and materials to help make learning fun and provide that boost that will provide the confidence and skills your child needs.

My philosophy is to motivate children through building relationships, having fun, and rewarding good work. Children from Pre-K to 5th grade, including those with special needs, are welcome!

I have a Masters Degree in Birth through Kindergarten Education and have taught many Pre-K and Kindergarten students the basics of reading. I have also taught grammar and reading comprehension at an older level in home school classes and co-ops, and I have a variety of materials to supplement school curriculum for all ages.

I love young children! I am experienced in a variety of methods in helping children learn and of differentiating instruction based on their learning needs and personalities. I have taught Pre-K and Kindergarten in both private and public schools and have also taught Elementary Music for grades Pre-K to 5th, as well as taught a large variety of subjects (writing, science, history) to home school co-op classes.

Phonics are the building blocks to reading. I am well-trained and experienced in teaching children to read using phonics, and I have a variety of materials to help supplement whatever curriculum their school is using.

I would love to meet you and your child to see if I would be a good fit for your family. It would be very rewarding for me to be able to help your child succeed in school!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
