Georgia State University (In progress) (Actuarial Science)
Hello! My name is Virginia, and I am currently in my third year of the Actuarial Science Program at Georgia State University. I will complete my degree a year early, my projected graduation being Summer 2017. Yay!! My strongest subjects are in mathematics, and I specialize in Calculus and Statistics. I have also taken many Accounting and Finance classes. My current GPA is a 4.13, and I am in the Honors Program at GSU. Additionally, I teach after school programs in Science and Robotics. I have a strong background in childcare, and have tutored students from 6 years to college age.
I have found that tutoring students (of all ages!) brings me the most joy and fulfillment of any job I have held. I have worked with students who have dreaded math and science their entire lives, fully believing that they were incapable of performing well enough on tests to pass the class, only to realize that they have amazing potential to succeed. My tutoring strategy involves branching off of the previously taught material in school and offering a new perspective on the material. While math may seem incredibly linear and structured, I have found ways to help students understand the material by offering a new perspective! Whether it be a complicated formula or a tricky calculus integration, I am completely confident that I can help your student learn and succeed in any subject we work on!
The Actuarial Science program at Georgia State University is very math intensive. I have taken Calculus 1-3, in addition to college level Pre-Calculus. For students currently in high school taking either Calculus AB or BC, I would be fully qualified to tutor those subject, as they just blend college level material to suit high school schedules. I have taken many high level statistics courses, many of which involve calculus material such as partial, double, and triple integration and derivation. In addition to the calculus based courses, I have taken both algebra 1 and 2 and am fully equipped to tutor those subjects for students currently in high school. For students in middle and elementary school, I have experience tutoring common core math curriculum.
Currently, I am completely free on weekends to tutor, and am located in the Kennesaw/Marietta area. Additionally, I am free during the evenings (5pm onwards) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I am comfortable coming to your home to tutor, or we could meet at a coffee shop! Feel free to contact me with any further questions. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! Granddaughter really connected with Virginia and told me multiple times after their first session how much she helped and so glad that we chose her as our tutor and how much of a help she was after just the first time.
Your granddaughter is an amazing student! I'm so glad we had the opportunity to meet one another. I look forward to future sessions. Thank you very much.
She explains the algebra real good, and easy to understand. Better than many college level teachers. She is awesome.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
