About Wendy

Do you need help in taking standardized exams, but have anxiety or are unable to raise your score through your own studying methods? Look no further, for I am here! Since I was in your shoes a couple years ago, so I understand how difficult taking the ACT/SAT can be, or even the college application process in general. Please allow me to be of assistance. Try me out--Wyzant allows the "Good Fit Guarantee" which means if first lesson is not to your satisfaction, I won't take your money. I promise.

A little about me: I have always loved teaching, literature, and music. So what better way to combine all 3 than to be a tutor! I prefer not to waste time and will get to teaching you as quickly as possible. I am a current student at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and am studying comparative literature on the premed track. I can answer a variety of questions and proofread essays--writing and reading are my favorite since I was five.

I will do my very best to help you in any way, whether it be on the piano, test prep, or proofreading an essay. My prior experience with teaching violin and piano has cemented my love of teaching and as a side note, I have been playing piano for over 12 years and violin for over 7.

As for education, I received my IB diploma in 2015 and have taken 8 AP exams and 14 IB exams. I was accepted into 8 top universities and can provide advice for high school students who are at a loss about the college application process.

One last thing--I am currently at school so working through Wyzant's online platform would be best. Thanks for visiting my profile and have a great day!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I received a 32 on the ACT; my best scores were in Reading and English (33+). As a current literature student at Cornell University, I think I have what it takes to tutor ACT English! I also received a 4 and a 5 in AP lang and AP lit, respectively, so I am generally familiar with standardized testing for most English-related subjects.

ACT Reading

-33+ ACT reading/Writing
-AP Lang/lit (score: 4 & 5, respectively)
-SAT reading/writing (760,750)
-Cornell University literature student

English

I have always had a penchant for English/literature. My favorite and best subject was always English, and that's why I'm studying at Cornell for lit even though I'm also premed. It's a passion and I enjoy it and had very talented literature teachers from elementary school to college.

Piano

I have been taking lessons since I was 7 years old; I am now 19 and can sight read music proficiently. Furthermore, I graduated Level 10 in the Suzuki Method (formally) and that is the highest level that can be achieved. I have previously taught students in intermediate beginner level, so I also have experience.

SAT Reading

I have the following qualifications: I scored a 760 CR section/2210 cumulative/10 essay; I was a comparative literature major on a premed track at Cornell University; and I earned an AP Literature score: 5.

SAT Writing

I took the SAT Writing test in 2014-15 and received a 750. Although I took it a couple years ago, I think I have what it takes to teach it, as I apply these skills (reading, writing, comprehension) every day as a sophomore in college. I am a comparative literature major at Cornell University and must read, write, etc., for my classes!

Spanish

I have taken AP Spanish 4 and IB Spanish 6. I currently have an A, A- in intermediate Spanish at Cornell.

Writing

I really like proofreading and helping people think up ideas for writing.
I am a lit major in college.
I did well on AP Lang and AP lit, SAT/ACT reading and writing.

Motivating and patient tutor — Wendy is awesome. She is very good at explaining everything in a way it's understandable. She comes prepared and has managed to motivate my daughter to work on her own which is not something I thought could be done. She gives good tips and notes that will be very useful . I am so thrilled to have found her to tutor my daughter with the ACT. Highly recommend her to anyone. ...
