About Adrienne

Hello !! I am an experienced Elementary, Special Needs and English as a Second Language Teacher. I have taught for 20 years and am fully certified in Georgia in Orthopedic and Visual Impairments and English as a Second Language. I am also highly qualified in all subject areas at the Elementary and Middle School levels. I have worked as both a small group teacher and Co-teacher, so I am experienced with the Common Core Curriculum and Georgia Milestones Testing. I have my Master's Degree in Education from Georgia State University. I also have an additional Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked for 16 years with students with special needs, including those with ADHD. I have attended professional development courses in ADHD, as well as graduate level coursework that addressed the causes, effects and educational implications of students with ADHD. Most, if not all, of my past students had ADHD in addition to their physical and visual impairments. . I have my Master's Degree in Education.

American History

I have a Bachelor's Degree in History with several courses in American History. I have taught American History at the Elementary, Middle and Secondary levels. I am familiar with the content and teaching methodologies in American History. I am also familiar the sequence and grade levels where certain American History concepts are taught. I also have knowledge and experience of the role that famous Georgians played in American History.

Braille

I am certified in Georgia as a teacher of students with visual impairments. I have taken graduate level coursework in Braille, which included both literary and math codes. I have taught braille students for 3 years.

Common Core

I have 16 years of teaching experience. I am familiar with the Common Core Curriculum in all subjects at the elementary school level. I have taught reading, writing, social studies and science in grades K-5. I have recent training and experience in current methodologies and standards supported by the Common Core.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have 16 years of teaching experience in all subjects at the elementary school level. I am trained in guided reading. I am also fully certified in K-12 in Special Education Orthopedically and Visually Impaired in Georgia. In addition, I have my ESOL endorsement with training in reading and writing for ESL students.

ESL/ESOL

I have training and an endorsement in teaching students who's primary language is not English. I have specific training in reading and writing. I have several years experience in teaching English language learners, including those who have special needs or disabilities in addition to being ESOL.

Handwriting

I have taught students with special needs for 16 years. I am trained to teach handwriting and cursive. I have training from Handwriting without Tears and I have worked with Occupational Therapists for the past 16 years and learned many handwriting strategies from them.

Phonics

I have training in reading and phonics, including guided reading for students in K-5. I am a fully certified special education teacher in Georgia and I have 16 years of teaching experience. My PA certification is pending.

Reading

I have taught reading at the elementary school level for 11 years and 5 years with older students who read at the elementary level. I have experience with beginning reading letter recognition, sight word and beginning reading. I also have experience with more advanced skills for students who can read, but need help with phonics. I have experience with blends, digraphs, diphthongs and higher level phonics skills. My reading comprehension experience has enabled me to work with students who are learning to read and use various strategies( picture cues and context ) to comprehend what is read. Also with students who are older 3rd grade and up who already know the basics of reading, but are reading to learn and use context clues to help them comprehend. I also use various strategies to teach comprehension, like building on past knowledge and pre-teaching concepts prior to a lesson before reading. This also includes preteaching vocabulary, sight word and phonics skills.

Social Studies

I have a Bachelor's Degree in History. I have taught for the past 16 years in all areas, including social studies. I have GA teacher certification in special ed and I also have the licensure to teach Social Studies.

Special Needs

I am a fully certified Special Education Teacher in GA for students with physical and visual impairments. I have worked with all disabilities, including ADHD and learning disabilities. I have a master's degree in Special education. I have taught and tutored special needs students for 20 years.

Study Skills

I am a certified special education teacher. I have taught study skills to students in grades K-12. I have a master's degree in special ed. I am also fully certified to teach in GA. My Pennsylvania certification is pending.

TOEFL

I am a certified special education teacher. I have training and am endorsed in Teaching individuals where English is a second language.
