In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my bachelors degree in chemistry and I tutored chemistry and mathematics while in college. As a Ph.D. student, I have taught and tutored freshman chemistry for three consecutive years. I am qualified to tutor chemistry based on my experience. My tutoring methods involve preparation with review of syllabus and planning for each session, discuss with student on weaknesses and strengths in subject matter, prepare planned approaches to problem solving strategy including basic maths (if required), and discuss with student on progress.
