About Lee

I have worked very closely with students both as a counselor in various programs and currently as a senior biology major with certification in secondary education through field experience in the classrooms. I have always had a passion for education and have attended conferences to vote for change in the world of education that would bring more fun to lessons and help to make more appropriate and real-life connections for each student as an individual.

I love tutoring, because it brings me satisfaction to get the one-on-one experience with each student; time that many educators and sometimes parents don't possess to give. Having the time to build a relationship, even if just through the undivided attention provided at the moment, may be the difference between a student getting a concept with clarity and precision and losing it all to the chaos of a classroom.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I initially began my undergraduate career as a Middle Grades educator with concentrations in math and science. I have obtained a wealth of knowledge in areas such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. I have done well in math and have retained a love of the subject that I will be returning to gain a certificate in this subject at the secondary level.

Biology

I am currently a Biology Major with Certification in secondary education. I have an extensive knowledge of the processes and systems within biology including but not limited to Photosynthesis, Natural Selection, Cells, Muscles, and Respiration. I have tutored peers at the collegiate level and will be entering the classroom full-time next year as a Secondary Biology educator. I love Biology and gained a love of the subject at a very young age. Biology, in my opinion, explains the foundations of life - all the things that we can see and explore.

Elementary (K-6th)

Being qualified in upper level mathematics and reading give insight into the strength of my knowledge at the elementary level. I have tutored children in the elementary institution environment in addition to being a lead teacher for science summer camp at the elementary level and understand working with children in academics. Having an educator foundation, I am also abreast of the curriculum standards and requirements to stay on top of success for each grade level for the state.

Elementary Math

I initially began my undergraduate career as a Middle Grades educator with concentrations in math and science. Math has never ceased to be apart of the sciences and the elementary level mathematics are the place to set a strong foundation for the more complex concepts of the subject later on in academics. I have spent time enhancing my own child's math skills at the elementary level and she is currently a member of the Gifted Program and is doing math at the 4th grade level, though just in the 1st grade. I believe all people are good at math... someone just has to make the all numbers look right to them.

Elementary Science

The concepts covered at the elementary level in science are what sparked my life-long interest in the topic. Making discoveries about our world through the observations of even children, is vital in fostering a love for the subject and helps them to understand why things are what they are. Learning about phases, and the different colors found in light, for example, gives students early insights into life's "physics," perhaps creates future engineers, doctors, and inventors.

Geometry

I initially began my undergraduate career as a Middle Grades educator with concentrations in math and science. I have obtained a wealth of knowledge in areas such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. Geometry is a fun subject that is essential for grasping basic life mathematics like shapes, areas, and perimeters... outside of foundations built in elementary like addition, fractions, and multiplication, of course.

HTML

I have taught myself to code and have worked on a few websites, html flyers, and other web work for clients in my free time. I understand the frustration in understanding the ever changing code and can explain in detail the ins and outs of html. I am a fanatic for organized blocks of code and can guide individuals all the way through to the designer for the structure, CSS.

Prealgebra

Last school year was a big year for me with regard to tutoring prealgebra. All 5 of my beginning summer tutees excelled in the subject during the school year and found a love for the subject with time. My goal is always to help them learn the material and not just the formulas to find the answers.

Proofreading

I have read through a number of scholarly articles, newspapers, books, and other complex reading materials and have always had a propensity for identifying errors within text. I have often been handed papers by both peers and advisors, and asked to proofread and provide feedback.

Reading

Reading is an integral part of most learning and so it is a subject that I believe is very important to get right very early. I started my daughter on a very early track for reading and she is reading at the 5th grade level now, though only in the 1st grade. Other students entrusted to me over the years have developed a love of reading because tying it to both visual and audio, and incorporating other unique ways to "word enhance" help to make reading feel closer to home.

Very patient — Lee did an awesome job with my son; it took her about four weeks to get him straight. My son was the typical high school freshman, Do enough to get by kind of kid till he found out you couldn't just get by algebra and he failed his EOCT. That's when Lee stepped in and got him together. She worked with him during the summer. He attended summer school, took the EOCT test for summer class and passed ...
