Anybody can learn Russian quickly, if they know proper techniques. I am ready to help you with this wonderful journey. Seven years ago I was in your shoes, because I didn't know a single word in English. Today I am ready to share my language learning experience using analogies between two languages. I have Master Degree in Psychology and now I am working on my PhD. I have 11 years teaching experience that help me to spread my love for the Russian language by instilling passion for the subject in the hearts and minds of students.
My philosophy of teaching Russian language comes from my own personal experience as a student, tutor, and teacher. I have always been interested in teaching others and in how to teach others optimally – this has guided me to actively consider the methods used by my own teachers as well as to monitor the progress of students I helped or taught. My beliefs regarding teaching Russian language are constantly evolving and are sure to continue evolving as I have more experience as a classroom instructor and with the ever-evolving technology that is made available in the classroom.
However, up to this point in time, my beliefs center around the following general ideas: the target language should be used as much as possible in the classroom, the teacher should make the importance and use of the target language clear to the students, the teacher should make the class fun and enjoyable for the students. I'm very pleased with the quality of Olesya's tutoring. As a native Russian speaker she has the deep knowledge required, and is well versed in the particulars and subtleties of imparting her knowledge to new students of the language. She is accommodating with my schedule, very patient and never allows her long work day to interfere with her enthusiasm and focus. I would heartily recommend Olesya to anyone seeking to learn the Russian language.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was born in the Ural Mountains of central Russia, the dividing line between European and Asian Russia. I began my musical education at the age of 6 in the art school for gifted children. I continued my musical education through my school years and eventually graduated from the musical college, which specializes in educating chorus conductors and pianists. Because of my love of beauty and my deep interest in the human soul, I devoted ten years to the study of psychology and earned a PhD in Psychology from the Moscow Socio-Psychological University. Upon moving to the states, I taught my native Russian language to children, and in doing so discovered a new passion for helping children with special needs. I am licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Georgia. Throughout all of my journeys, my love for music and teaching children to play the piano has remained constant. I am an experienced piano teacher of 12 years. I am a patient and dedicated teacher, and committed to bringing out the best in each student I works with.
For the past six years I have been teaching beginning and intermediate level courses of Russian language in Atlanta's school system. In 2010 I established the Russian Folk Ensemble “Kalinka”. Ensemble members are mainly American-born students of the who sing in the Russian language and truly want to share the best Russian traditions and culture with their fellow Americans.
