My name is Sandra C. I am a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga. with a B.A. in Sociology. I also have a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University in Atlanta. I studied math at the University of Texas at Arlington and did some early teaching in the Fort Worth Independent School District. I also taught eight years as the Math Instructor at the Howard Hughes Medical program during the summers at Spelman College. I have been a professional high school and middle grades mathematics teacher for over 30 years. I have taught in both the private and public school setting. I have specifically taught all subjects in math to include Prealgebra, Algebra I, II and III. I have taught Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, College Statistics, Discrete Math, Geometry and Precalculus. Although most of my tenure has been at the high school level, I have also taught at the middle grade level as well. I have served as Mathematics Department Head. The majority of my tenure has been with Fulton County Schools. My broad experience is relevant in that I believe that I can help every student achieve success in the study of mathematics.
My tutoring approach is one that is very simple. I want to help and ensure that the student receives the maximum benefit from each session. I have a personal teaching style, which means I don’t mind giving whatever it takes so that all students can learn and achieve. I also believe that students need to be loved. When love is given to students, it is always reciprocated. Mathematics can be fun and I like for the environment to be one filled with excitement to learn. I believe in giving tender loving care for every student’s life that I touch. My personal feelings and beliefs about teaching are deeply rooted. My mother, sister, aunts, uncles and many relatives are teachers and education administrators, present and retired. Most of my friends and colleagues are teachers and educators. I have found many rewards in teaching and I always want to give back in a special way. I want to be able to give back something that I received from all of the teachers who taught me. All were very instrumental in who I am today. The friendship with colleagues established over the years has been rewarding as well. However, the highlight of teaching and its rewards are the many students who come back to visit or who have written letters thanking me for helping them. It is very rewarding to see all of my students become productive members of society.
In summary, with all of my experience in teaching and with my background in math, I would like to focus in on one-on-one teaching; tutoring will give the opportunity to do so. I am a math tutor at my church Turner Chapel A.M.E. in Marietta during the school year. Although the students benefit greatly, I benefit just as much because I enjoy helping students one on one. Tutoring allows innovative teaching methods which require doing what it takes so learning can take place. I believe in fostering tutorial relationships with students that will be interesting and enjoyable yet challenging. I am willing to adapt to meet students needs and getting them more involved with the mathematical process. Most of all, my teaching and tutoring methods will create opportunities for students to learn in a safe and trusting environment.

Sandra is truly a great teacher and makes learning fun for her students. Both my 9th grader and my 6th grader always looked forward to their tutoring sessions with Sandra, and the best part was they all mastered the subject areas they were struggling with and exceeded. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra I consist of Linear application, operations with exponents and sequences. You would look at special right triangles and apply the tangent ratio, sine and cosine ratios. In Algebra, you would study quadratic functions. It would consist of graphing quadratics, solve by factoring, solve by finding the square roots, by completing the square and use the quadratic formula. I have taught Algebra I for thirty years. These are a few of my favorite topics.
I have taught Algebra II for 28 years. Most likely your child has covered polynomials and has complete the conics with the shift from the origin. At this moment, I am beginning my last section on statistics.
I have taught Geometry for over thirty years. We would examine such topics as using properties of tangent of a circle, finding the arc measures and central angles of a circle, using properties of chords and the area of circles. We would examine the surface area and volume of spheres. We would study right triangles using the trigonometry of triangles.
