One of the greatest personal joys that I get from tutoring is being able to see other individuals succeed. As a3rd year graduate student I have personally experienced that joy as my own hard work and perseverance has paid off. Though I am new to WzyAnt tutoring, I have successfully tutored a fair number of college students successfully in college level mathematics. My personal experiences of helping others overcome their academic challenges have been some of my most rewarding memories from my undergraduate experience.
My strongest subject is mathematics primarily basic math skills (elementary age through college level), Algebra 1, and SPSS operations. In my own studies I have successfully passed all of these classes with As. I have also successfully tutored numerous students in these subjects. I am also able to tutor elementary level spelling and mathematics. Though I do not have direct tutoring experience in this area, I am a mother to 2 young children who I have successfully helped master these subjects time and time again. I utilize various studying methods designed to help students understand a concept thoroughly such as the use of various example problems, discussing the theory and/or reasoning behind each step in solving a problem, and when possible using a process of checking the work for mistakes. For spelling difficulties, I often use methods that involve spelling words with any number of different activities. Though the homework can be challenging, it is not my goal to overwhelm him or her.
Also as a current student myself, I work with computers and Microsoft applications on a consistent basis. In addition to the classes I have taken on Microsoft products (PowerPoint, Word, etc.). Though I do not possess advance knowledge of computers, I am able and prepared to help students learn the basic computer skills and broaden their knowledge of various Microsoft programs.
I hold myself to a high standard. I will ask for feedback both for the student and the parent throughout tutoring.
I do ask that students cancel at least 24 hours or more in advance of a scheduled tutoring session. Should there be two missed sessions without notice or notice of cancellation with less than 24 hours notice, I reserve the right to end our tutoring contract.
I truly look forward to hearing from you and beginning our work together! One of the greatest personal joys that I get from tutoring is being able to see other individuals succeed. As a3rd year graduate student I have personally experienced that joy as my own hard work and perseverance has paid off. Though I am new to WzyAnt tutoring, I have successfully tutored a fair number of college students successfully in college
My son has always struggled with math and as a result has lost confidence. Miss Yvonne has been very patient; she breaks down the concepts for my son, and she always comes well prepared for whatever topic he is working on. another important factor is the sheets that miss Yvonne makes as aid for this student to grasp the concepts. Also she commends him when he gets a math lesson correct. I know with time, mt son's confidence will return. I recommend Miss Yvonne a hundred percent. She is truly an awesome tutor! I highly recommend her.
This is my son's first tutoring session and Ms. Yvonne was extremely gracious with spending time with him. Corey gained a little confidence during his first session and is looking forward to seeing Ms.Yvonne again. I'm so excited and can't wait to see his grades and confidence improve. I really appreciate Ms. Yvonne willingness to help my son improve.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have successfully tutored several students in algebra I. I use various methods to help my students succeed including: verbally reviewing the problem and theory behind each example, reviewing several practice problems, assigning homework, and reviewing completed work as another way to reinforce the day's lessons. Though I have had success using these methods, I am always open to meeting the student where they are in their own studies.
I am currently a 2nd year graduate student studying for my Ph.D. However, my expertise in tutoring elementary math not only comes from my own educational experiences, but also from helping my own two children in their studies. I am able to utilize various methods to enhance the learning process including: flashcards, practice problems, utilization of different methods to solve the same problem, and homework problems.
I am computer literate at the basic level of computer knowledge and utility. This will allow me to help a student learn the basic ins and outs of how to operate a computer and understand some computer terminology. To help students learn computer basics I am willing to work with them on their personal computer or my laptop.
My knowledge of PowerPoint is based on both classroom experience and hands on knowledge. In my experience learning PowerPoint in a live environment (i.e., using PowerPoint on a computer) is the best way to learn the program. When I teach others the ins and outs of PowerPoint I like to lead by example and then assign independent study lessons to my students.
As a current graduate student, my knowledge of Microsoft Word comes almost entirely from direct hands on experience with the software. I have also taken and successfully passed a college class that also covered the ins and outs of Microsoft Word. As with other computer programs, it may be best to learn in a live setting. My method would involve identifying weaknesses in the program for the student and addressing those weaknesses through example and then independent work.
In my collegiate career I have successfully tutored several students in prealgebra. I have used various methods to help my students succeed including discussing the theory and method verbally, going over several types of practice problems, assigning homework, and reviewing completed work for correct and incorrect answers. I also try to find ways for the student to check their work to verify their answer is correct.
My expertise in tutoring spelling not only comes from my own educational experiences, but also from helping my own two children in their studies. I am able to utilize various methods to enhance the learning process including: flashcards, various assignments that enhance learning how to spell a word, memory tricks, and homework problems.
As a psychology major and a 2nd year graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology, I have had an abundance of exposure to the SPSS system. In addition to understanding the basics of how to operate the software program, I am also able to understand "in words" what the tests are looking for. To understand SPSS I feel it is best to work with both a textbook to understand what the test is actually doing and to run the analysis in a live SPSS program. This will give students exposure to the theory and actual output for interpretation.
