About Richard

I have been living in Riyadh for the past year and a half and I enjoyed it tremendously. There I was a private tutor for a 15 year old special needs young man. At this time, my employer and his family are in London for the next year and they are also looking for a specialized school for their son. While I am his private tutor, however, his mother will be living in the U.K. for the next nine months and he will be there with her. For this reason I am looking for other positions closer to home.

I have experience in the following areas: (Teaching (English, math, social studies, history, business studies. planning and development, large entity management, analyst, intelligence, Investigator,
management, administration, security, consulting, finance, and support.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I taught 4th and 7th grade classes in Bibb County in the state of Georgia. My classes had children with ADHD in them. By law the classes were inclusive of children with special needs. The law mandated that that children with ADHD (special needs) be taught in the classrooms with children that were not ADHD (special needs). To separate them was viewed as discrimination and forbidden by law.

I have raised two children. Both have ADHD. One is now a firefighter and the other a math major at Clemson, University. We found ways or methods to help them focus their attention to complete task.

Anthropology

In college I have taken courses in anthropology and interned in an anthropological study of native Americans.

Archaeology

I also have taken archaeology courses in college. I interned with archaeologist on three digs. One at a civil war battle sight, another at a native American sight, and another in Mexico at an abandoned Mayan village. If I had not had so many hours invested in Criminal Justice in college I would have changed my major.

I still keep up with the latest technology and information about archaeological discoveries in magazines, videos, and the internet.

Bible Studies

I have taught bible studies in Sunday school. There are approximately 20 people in Sunday school in any given class. The classes taught include the old and new testaments. I have been doing this for ten years.

Business

I owned and operated the Middle Georgia Dating Service from 1985 to 1990, a dating service that resulted in twenty marriages and five births that I am aware of.

I also own and operate a financial services company (1990 to present). I prepare personal, business, and corporate taxes, as well as bookkeeping, planning and development of my clients.

Career Development

I was a training instructor for the state of Georgia and I was human resources manager and trainer for Smith's Financial Services. In each instance I trained employees to perform their duties as required by their respective employers. I assisted each of the employees with the development of their careers and the direction of their career paths. I repeated this procedure for twenty years with the Department of Corrections and twenty years with Smith's Financial Services.

Criminal Justice

I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

DOS

I wrote a program in basic using a DOS operating system that allowed me to enter, save, sort, store, match, and retrieve information of a personal nature. This program was used by the Middle Georgia Dating service (1985 to 1990).

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught the fourth and seventh grades in Bibb County Georgia. The fourth grade was a self-contained class with courses in math, English, science, writing, reading, and social studies.

Elementary Math

I was employed as a teacher for Bibb County. I tutored children in math in Bibb County's after school program and I taught elementary math to children in the 4th and 7th grades.

Elementary Science

I was employed as a teacher for Bibb County. While I was with Bibb County I tutored students in elementary science in their after school program. I also taught elementary science in the 4th and 7th grades.

English

I taught elementary English in the 4th and 7th grades when I was employed as a teacher for Bibb County.

Phonics

I used phonics while teaching spelling in the fourth and seventh grades.

Praxis

In order to teach any grade in the Bibb county school system, you must pass a Praxis exam. I successfully completed the Praxis exams that allowed me to teach the 4th and 7th grades.

Religion

In college I took courses in comparative religion (Christianity, Islam, Hindi, Buddhism, Judaism, paganism), anthropology, and philosophy. I have taught Sunday school classes. I have studied and interned in middle eastern countries.

Social Studies

I taught social studies in the fourth and seventh grades for Bibb county Georgia.

Sociology

I have a B.S. in criminal justice with a minor in sociology.

Special Needs

I taught the 4th and 7th grades. Some children in my classes were special needs. These children, by law could not be in special classes. The law mandated that they be included in the classes with children that were not special needs.

I worked in a mental health unit for 10 years with the department of corrections. All residents in this unit had special needs. I have certificates in the following subjects: Instructor Training, Basic Mental Health, Advanced Mental Health, Module 1, Advanced Mental Health, Module 2, Advanced Mental Health, Module 3, Specialized Mental Health, Module 2, Special Needs Offenders, Juvenile Caseworker.

Speech

I taught in the Bibb county school system for several years. In that time, a law passed that mandated that children could not be discriminated against because of their "special need(s)". This law mandated that these students be included in the classrooms with children that did not have a "special need".

I have taught children that had difficulty with their speech patterns and verbalization skills. I taught them how to use phonics and speech development exercises.

I am still familiar with the methods used to assist students with speech and speaking skills.

Study Skills

I taught students the fourth and seventh grades and tutored students in the after school program in Bibb County Georgia. I have been helping children with their study skills for the years I taught in the Bibb County schools.

Tax Preparation

I also own and operate a financial services company (1990 to present). I prepare personal, business, and corporate taxes, as well as bookkeeping, planning and development of my clients.
