About Kerrell

I can work with students one-on-one or in a group setting. That choice is yours. As far as my teaching style is concerned, I prefer the lecture-type setting when lessons about history and/or political science are concerned as well as lecture style if it is music history.

I was a substitute teacher in the Bibb Public Schools System from 2000 to 2009 and I am a product of that same school system.

I think that education can be saved but we have to work together as a team. That means students, teachers, administrators, parents and those that support the schools, either as tutors or assisting the athletic programs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I am requesting certification for baseball. I have prior experience playing baseball in high school and currently assist with Howard High School in Macon, GA.

College Counseling

It's not easy for a person to select a college, especially if the parents are alums and want their child to go to school A and they want to go to school B. Picking a college is like dating. You have to decide if that school works for you. After all, it's your four years and hopefully your degree.

Composition (Music)

I took two years of theory/composition at the University of South Alabama and I currently write introits and antiphons for my church.

Criminal Justice

My area of expertise is assisting Mercer Law School with the Mock Juror workshops that they have for attorneys every summer. I have done this with them for the last 5 years.

Ear Training

I studied ear training at the University of South Alabama and Georgia State University. My experience in this subject helps me with cantoring at my church.

Music History

I took a year (three quarters) of Music History at South Alabama and I sometimes apply it to my church choir position as cantor.

Public Speaking

I have been a substitute teacher for nine years in the Bibb Public School System and I am currently a cantor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, so being able to do public speaking is no problem for me. I have also taken the course at Mercer University and passed it, so that hopefully speaks volumes for itself.

Sight Singing

I studied sightsinging at the University of South Alabama and Georgia State University. My experience in this subject helps me with cantoring at my church.

Softball

I have played slow-pitch softball in college and currently I am the stats person and unofficial bench coach for Howard High School Varsity Fastpitch Softball. I have been with the program for the last three years.
