About Marie

As a military veteran and family member, I have taken the opportunity to learn from new experiences. No matter what, education has always been important for me. I have a bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies with an emphasis in Special Education, Individual Education Plans and 504's so, that I could be an advocate for those students who need additional academic support. Finally, I continued my education by getting a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology, in other words I make accommodations to any curriculum or build curriculum for students to learn any new skill set. I have plans to continue my education in the future though right now, I want to help those students being left behind by current educational standards.

I really love watching for the light bulb moment when my student finally understands the subject that had perplexed them! The connection to the student and finding the "right" way for them to learn the material is essential for success. I have been through most of the curriculum's currently on the market. I am willing and open to building curriculum for any student looking to accomplish their educational goals. For over eight years now, I have been tutoring students towards success! Finally, I initially set my children to public school. Quickly, I found working with the school system frustrating for not only me but my children. Public school teachers are saints! These teachers need help! Forty students in a classroom to one teacher and maybe an assistant, is an equation for failure. Students need individual attention and time to succeed! I hope to hear from you soon! I promise, I can help!

Oh, I love math! There's nothing better that finding the answer to a numerical problem. From the basic concepts of numbers, shapes and problem-solving to the more complex word problems, there's always a way to solve the problem once you learn the skills. It's essential that a subject in which a student struggles, learns that they can accomplish anything with a little hard work, new skills, and time.

As a child, I struggled to read. It wasn't that I didn't want to read. No, instead it was that the teacher didn't have time to spend with me to help me. As your tutor, I will take the time to build up your skills and confidence necessary to read with comprehension and fluency.

I have home-schooled my children for the past decade. I have researched and worked through most of the curriculum's out on the market today. While I have found my favorite for my children, every child is different. Even through learning disabilities and special needs of the children that I have worked with over the years, I have always been able to build a plan of success for the student.

I have taught children with several learning disabilities to read with fluency and confidence. I have learned over the last several years that children want to learn; they just need someone to build up their skills. The basics and the silly tricks make reading a game to the student. Children learn the best when they are having fun! Let me help your student be successful!

Are you struggling with a test? Does your child need help with confidence in a subject? I can help out!As a military veteran, I passed the ASVAB with flying colors including the Nuclear test. Let me show you how to succeed no matter the educational obstacle! Contact me soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Math is a puzzle. If you know the rules, you can solve any problem in front of you. I have studied and learned several methods to solve mathematical problems within my Masters degree in Education studies.

I am known as the math lady who can solve math problems on the fly. Let me show you, how to conquer math and pass your ACT exam!

American History

I have a bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies and a Masters degree in Education. I grew up with a historian as a parent. There was always a daily discussion on history and politics. I have continued that love of history throughout my life in my travels, reading and even my binge watching of television shows.

ASVAB

As a military veteran, I passed the ASVAB with flying colors the first time. The ASVAB isn't about the details of grammar, instead its solving problems. The military wants to know that you think on your feet and run with a solution.

Handwriting

In the past ten years of homeschooling and tutoring several children and obtaining a Master's degree in Education, I have come to realize that every student has their own personal challenges and needs. While I prefer the Handwriting without Tears method, I am very comfortable in teaching D'Nealian, Palmer and Spencerian methods of handwriting.

Homeschool

My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies with an emphasis in Special Education and Disabilities, and a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology and Curriculum. I have taught several students in all subjects from kindergarten to high school in person and online. While no one student learns one way, I have the ability to find their preferred method of learning. Particularly with homeschooling a student, its about the student exploring and learning through methods of instruction that excite them towards the subject. As an example, science is about observation, trial and error and experiments!

Phonics

I prefer a multi-sensory method to learning to read. It's not just about the letters on the paper, its understanding what those letters mean. While the phonics of word is essential, a student learns and comprehends faster with more tactile methods such as spelling out the words, sight words with silly photos, and textures for descriptive words. I have taught students with several kinds of learning disabilities to read with confidence.

Prealgebra

Math is about solving puzzles. Let me show you how to solve the puzzle with math rules while having fun gaining confidence. I have taken math courses through out college into my Master's degree.

Special Needs

I have a bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies with an emphasis of Special Education. I have been trained on the needs of all learning disabilities. My master's degree in Education furthered my skills to be the best teacher for any students needs. Many parents are nervous to approach school officials with their concerns. I am an advocate for the child and their needs to learn.
