I have enjoyed tutoring for a couple of decades. The combination for my love of people and academia, especially math and science, comes through when I work with each student. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Northwestern and minored in Math and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and was pre-med – taking advanced coursework in biology, as well as chemistry and genetics.
While a student at Northwestern University, I participated in the S.M.A.R.T. program (Science and Mathematics Advocacy for Recruitment of Teachers), tutoring high school students in four Chicago urban schools. I tutored with TARC (Tutoring Academic Resource Center) at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where I primarily tutored college students taking college algebra, one-on-one and as a group. I worked at a Charter School in Milwaukee, where I taught middle school science to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
In the ecclesiastical setting, where I am a leader, I have taught 5th – 8th graders for many years. In my experience that age group wants you to assist them in their process of thinking. It’s important to recognize how young people are processing and help them think through the problem, not just provide the answer.
As an employee in healthcare, I have had the privilege of tutoring returning adult students, specifically those who were taking prerequisites for nursing school. I tutored Chemistry, and math to adults who are now both licensed RNs, along with others upon request.
Besides the knowledge of material needed to tutor, it’s important to be patient, and observant. That is true no matter if I am working with K-12 or adult students. It is important to meet with potential tutors, and see if it is a good “fit” between tutor and student.
If you are looking for an enthusiastic, patient tutor, then I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals! I have enjoyed tutoring for a couple of decades. Anita was a life saver when it came to taking my precalculus exemption exam in college! Being on a time crunch and having never even taken precalculus in my life, I was in need of a tutor who could clearly and efficiently review trigonometry and precalculus in a very short amount of time. Anita came very prepared to my study sessions and even brought a few study materials which were very helpful due to the fact that I didn't even have a precalculus book to help me. She was able to explain everything very clearly and even gave me numerous examples of possible questions I could see. I went into the exam very confident and passed thanks to her!
Ms Anita really helped my daughter improve her grade in Trigonometry. She equipped her with some very useful tools and tips for remembering how to follow steps. Ms Anita is very enthusiastic and has a teaching style that makes it easy to understand. My child loves her. She seems to have a busy schedule which means she is in high demand. I highly recommend Ms Anita (as long as it doesn't interfere with the time we need to meet with her)!
Anita has been tutoring my son for the past three weeks and she has worked wonders with him in so little time. He has just passed his first trigonometry test with flying colors. I am so happy to have found her and I am very pleased to post this review.
I am adding to the review that I previously wrote on Anita. Up until a couple weeks ago, she took over from other tutors with my son in Trigonometry and I can't thank her enough! My son went from a solid F with her help and has just passed trigonometry with a strong B! I am ecstatic and ever so grateful! I cannot believe that she was able to help him come to this point from so far behind.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
