I have successfully taught SAT strategies to high school students since 2007, both independently and with one of the top SAT prep companies in the country. I have also tutored students privately in all aspects of the SAT and ACT exam. As a result, I have had the opportunity to teach students who functioned below, at, and above grade level. This allowed me to understand the varying needs of each group and to tailor my teaching style accordingly. I have a consistent track record of improving student performance... I have improved student SAT scores by over 500 points under my tutelage over a period of just over two months! I am skilled in keeping students engaged and interested in the material, and my friendly and entertaining approach has proven effective in keeping students interested and eager to learn more.

Given a limited time period, the most effective way to increase score potential when taking the SAT is 1) learning exactly how the exam is structured and how questions are asked, 2) learning strategies on how to best tackle not only each section of the exam, but how to identify and best approach the different types of questions in each section.
During my initial consultation, I create a plan based on the needs and desires of the student and parent/s. This approach is irrespective of whether our goals are short, medium or long term, or whether the client's needs are tutoring for the SAT or ACT, remedial tutoring, or long-term support during the school year.

The Reading section of the SAT proves to be the most difficult section of the exam for students to improve their test scores. Primarily based on reading comprehension and sentence completion, many find the passages boring and difficult to read, and get discouraged when faced with sentence completions which include words that they do not know. Some SAT tutors advocate studying a long list of words, hoping that one or two may turn up on the exam. I believe this is a complete waste of the student's time, especially if time is of the essence. Students are much better served learning strategies on how to approach sentence completions via a process of elimination, coupled with tips on how to identify words they do not know. Also, learning strategies on how to approach reading passages, coupled with knowing how to answer the subsequent questions, have proven to result in much higher success rates.

Few students realize that just over 12 common errors in English covers over 70 percent of all the writing questions in the SAT exam! Coupled with understanding how to write essays geared specifically to the SAT requirements, the writing section proves to be one of the fastest ways to improve one's score on the exam.
